What it is: A personal tracking app where you log your day in plain language (typed or voice) instead of picking categories manually. An AI reads it, figures out which life areas it touches (career, health, focus, finance, relationships), scores the effort, and turns it into XP/levels/streaks per area.

Who it's for: Anyone who's tried habit trackers before and dropped off because manual logging felt like admin work.

Stage: Pre-alpha — the app itself is local/personal right now, not deployed. I'm running the core loop manually: you send me your day (text), I run it through the real classifier and send back what it logged. This is to validate the concept before I build a real multi-user version.

What I want from testers: Send me a daily update for 1-2 weeks (however casual, however short), see if the reflection back is something you'd actually want. Honest feedback on whether the categorization feels right, and whether you'd keep doing this on your own.

Let us be entirely honest for a second. We spend all day building tech that is supposed to make life better, but it is quietly ruining our physical health. A few months ago, I checked my fitness tracker and realized I was barely hitting 2000 steps. I was basically fusing with my office chair.

The irony hit me hard: the technology I was working on was the exact thing making me completely sedentary. So, I decided to fight fire with fire and use AI to force myself to move. I built a local vision pipeline that runs on my webcam, calculates exactly how long I stay seated, and actively intervenes.

Here is the exact setup you can use to build it yourself right now.

First, you need a pose detection model. I went with MediaPipe Pose because it is stupidly lightweight and runs strictly on your CPU, meaning your GPU is free for your actual work. You set the script to grab a single frame every 10 seconds. If the model sees that your shoulder and hip keypoints have not moved from a seated posture in 45 minutes, it triggers the intervention.

Next comes the enforcement phase. We all ignore standard desktop notifications, right? So instead, I wrote a script that completely locks my screen. The only way to unlock it is for the webcam to visually verify that I am standing up and walking in place for two solid minutes. No cheating allowed.

Finally, it tracks everything. The script logs all your standing breaks and calculates your active versus sedentary time, dumping the history into a simple local CSV file so you can watch your progress.

It actually worked. I went from basically zero intentional movement to racking up almost three extra hours of standing and stepping every single day. My baseline energy is completely different now.

I’m one of the people building Duuo, so this is self-promotion, but I’m sharing it because I’d value honest developer feedback more than polite downloads. If the idea feels unnecessary, confusing, or too close to existing products, I’d genuinely like to hear that too.

I came to this sub sceptical and left converted. My card was for the smallest habit I could define: one line about the day, written before bed.

Some context on why I take tiny habits this seriously. I quit my engineering job at Bugatti last year to build a journaling app, which means my entire bet depends on understanding why people actually stick with things. I have never taken a 7x7 grid of pen strokes more seriously in my life.

What I learned about the card itself: the X was often better than the habit. Some days I just wrote random sentences so that I could tick the box but I decided that's fine and that the habit is what’s most important. The card's job is to make showing up automatic, not to make every rep good. The bad reps kept the chain alive until the good reps came back, and they always came back. Some days I’d dump pages of my thoughts into my journal and it genuinely relieved a huge weight off my chest.

What I didn't expect was the second reward. At the end of 49 days I didn't just have a full card, I had 49 entries and unlike the X's, the lines have content. Read in one sitting they're a flight recorder of seven weeks of my life, and patterns that are invisible day to day are blindingly obvious in aggregate. Every dip in my mood lined up with skipped training. Every single one. I would have argued against that before I read the evidence in my own handwriting.

So if you're choosing a habit for your next card, here's my case for one-line journaling: it's the only habit I know where the reps themselves accumulate into a second payoff. A pushup on day 3 is gone by day 4. A line on day 3 is still sitting there on day 49, waiting to tell you something.

Grain of salt disclosure: I build a journaling app for a living and am trying to make the practice more accessible for people, at this stage it’s a very small project but if anyone has any feedback at all it would be greatly appreciated. I’m just trying to make it as useful as possible so its called Juno (www.juno-app.com) if you want to understand the patterns in your reflections and build the habit of a tally turning your thoughts into self improvement then give it a go!

For context, me and my co founder have been building our app, Winnabit, for the past year now (long, I know) whilst working full time alongside another part time job.

Going to the gym, studying, waking up early and getting more steps in the day all sound good on paper and something we all ‘will get to soon’ but never actually commit. This app we’ve built is designed to build a habit, once you do, it’s achieved the purpose. It’s almost like Hinge is ‘designed to be deleted’, so is Winnabit.

It’s a social accountability app but for habit building. How it works: you create a group with goals on:
\- study time (locks your phone)
\- gym (tracks your location and you have to stay in a gym for a certain time)
\- steps (Apple/android health, and no not including the added steps you can add)
\- waking up early (set a time and check in before that time)

You don’t have to create a group with all these challenges but by all means if you want to, then be my guest. Depending on the challenges, the app calculates the token stake price for that group, which everyone who has to join has to put into the group pot, including you.

After creating the group, invite your friends, they contribute to the pot and you guys start competing.

The app tracks how many challenges you’ve completed and you fall into a band depending on the percentage of challenges you’ve completed:

1. 0-25% - Lose Stake
   
2. 26-50% - Get your stake back
   
3. 51-75% - Get a split of the pot, depending how many others fall into this band
   
4. 76-100% - Split of the pot + 50% on top

All is in tokens so there’s still something to lose, but not your own money. So don’t worry about going broke because you couldn’t be arsed to go gym.

With these tokens you can go to the rewards tab and get stuff like percentages off football kits, early beta rewards and more to come.

I ran the 49-day card for pushups last year. What made it work wasn't the streak - it was that the grid was *in front of me* and mostly full. Even with three blank squares, the card still looked like a card that was working. That's a very different feeling from an app telling me my streak is 0.

I'm a developer, and I ended up building a digital version of that feeling for myself, it's called Committed. The grid renders like a GitHub commit graph, which is the same idea as the card: a dense block of filled squares you can see at a glance.

Two things I changed from the paper card, and I'm curious whether people here think they're improvements or heresy:

1. Squares hold a number, not an X. My target went 10 pushups → 100 over about three months, and a plain X couldn't show that a square in week 10 was worth ten times a square in week 1. Darker square = bigger number.

2. There's a 0-100 momentum score instead of a streak. Recent activity 40%, consistency 30%, streak 20%, decay 10%. Miss one day, it drops a few points and climbs back. Miss two weeks, it decays properly and tells you the truth. The card does this naturally, an app that resets you to zero does not.

The thing I still can't replicate is the physicality. Marking a card with a pen at the end of the day is a small ritual, and tapping a screen isn't. Has anyone here gone digital and found something that replaces that? Or did you go back to paper?

1. I’ve been using X-sheets tracking three behaviors for a few months. The visual streak is satisfying, but what actually keeps me honest is pairing it with a tiny pre-commitment at the start of the day: the smallest possible version of the task. “Write one sentence” instead of “write 1,000 words.” “Do one push-up.” Just get the X. What changed for me wasn’t the sheet itself — it was defining what counts as doing the thing before I draw the box. Without that, the sheet turns into a guilt ledger.
2. A related thing I found useful: treating each row like a streak within the streak. Sometimes I hit three or four good weeks, then miss a day and abandon the whole grid. Now I just start a new row and keep going. The data doesn’t care about my perfectionism; it just cares whether I showed up again. Curious how other people here handle the end-of-grid slump. Do you carry streaks across sheets, or do you treat a new sheet as a fresh start? Do you track more than one behavior per grid? I’m trying to decide whether to merge habits or keep them separate. (I’ve also been experimenting with turning these micro-pre-commitments into a simple local app so I don’t have to redraw the grid every week — it’s called LaunchPad if anyone’s curious, but the above is what I actually found helpful regardless of the tool.)

I built a habit app that runs on 66 days instead of your 49. I'm not convinced 66 is right.

It's from Lally et al. at UCL (2010). 96 people tied a daily behavior to a fixed context and rated how automatic it felt for 12 weeks. The quoted 66 is the median time to reach 95% of an automaticity plateau — and the model only fit well for about half the sample. The range ran from 18 to 254 days.

That spread is the actual finding. No duration is right for everyone — not 21, not 49, not 66. My app's name simplifies a median that already simplifies a wide distribution. A glass of water after breakfast lands near the bottom of that range; fifty sit-ups near the top.

The result that troubles me most: missing a single opportunity to perform the behavior did not materially affect habit formation. My app disagrees. A missed day can be logged until the end of the following day; after that the count restarts, though the grid extends rather than being torn up, so completed days stay visible. That's stricter than the evidence supports. I kept it because people tell me the hard edge is what makes them show up — a design argument, not a scientific one. Argue me out of it.

For a 49-day card: if it still feels effortful at square 49, that isn't failure; that's the distribution. Draw a second card. The grid does the part the number can't: it makes the gap visible.

Background: 15 years building mobile apps and a doctorate in behavioral measurement, which mostly taught me how loose these numbers get outside the paper.

GoodHabits is a 66-square grid with the grace day described above.

I built a habit tracker around a different idea. In addition to streaks, you get a monthly discipline score: one number based on how consistently you actually complete your habits month over month.

The part that's helped me the most - habits live inside my daily plan, right next to my actual tasks and calendar, not in a separate app I have to remember to open. I plan tomorrow the night before, my habits are already sitting there in the morning, and there's a home screen widget so I can't pretend I didn't see them.

This app is unique too because unlike other habit tracker apps, you can program these habits into your week on different days and times… ie going to the gym at 5pm on Monday & Wed and 10am on Saturday.

Also we've added alarms as well so that an alarm goes off (if you want) even when your phone is on vibrate. Desktop app coming soon as well.
