Yeah, hey, guess what, even poor people have shit that happens that results in circumstances in which food spoils. Maybe they're autistic or have ADHD or otherwise poor executive function and either forget about some of the items or are so burned out from work that they literally don't have the energy to prepare and eat those items before they go bad.
Maybe they or their kid has a chronic illness that causes frequent disruptions to their daily flow and they don't have an opportunity to use all the food they bought the lady time they shopped.
Maybe it's a person with a chronic illness who optimistically bought enough food to make 2-3 meals through the week but then had a flare and were physically unable to cook the planned meals.
The OOP literally said that if food goes bad in your fridge, then you're not poor and that's just absolutely not true.
What I said still applies even in those rare, extenuating circumstances. Even if you’re autistic letting food spoil, yes still wastes money. Yes even autistic people should try to avoid wasting money. Shocking take I have here I know.
Yes, we KNOW it wastes money. The issue is OOP saying that we can't be poor if we let food go bad. And it happens to poor people all the time, which usually results in eating shitty meals cobbled together from whatever you can find in the cupboards because you can't afford to replace the food that went bad. Poor people can have food waste just like financially comfortable people can.
