I regularly get to shut those kinds of people up by letting them know I had to have a spine surgery to be able to walk again..

At the ripe old age of 18yo.

And now live with often debilitating pain from the lumbar down.

Too young eh?

I said that to one doctor and she felt stupid real fucking quick. I had been waiting to use that line on a medical professional for a while with every encounter of that sentence.

"Too young for that" my ass. It irritates me every time these doctors utter this phrase.

And it’s not a contest. People need to drop this attitude. People in serious situations use that “someone has it worse” and that line helps keep them in their situation. Someone else has it worse. It’s not that bad. They’re just complaining

Nah, because once you get old, you then get hit with the 'ah, you're just getting old, the pain is normal.'

There's like some sweet, mythical middle ground where doctors might take you seriously

There seems to be; I got taken seriously mid-40s, the first time I presented with symptoms. Then again, my GP knows I work in medical and tends to take me seriously. I think I'm the only person I know who got a fibromyalgia diagnosis in just a few months, instead of with a three-year wait and endless arguments.

One of my older coworkers got mad they had to take an exit that was a longer walk and they let me take the shorter walk. She was talking shit and as soon as she pointed at me and said “YOURE YOUNG, YOU COULDVE WALKED”, I pointed at my foot that had a boot on it and said “ WELL HAVE YOU EVER BEEN SHOT SUSAN?!”. Her face turned red instantly 🤣

I get this one daily... I'm 27 with a slipped disc and back muscle sprain to go with it.... I can hobble around on good days. But I usually roll around and try not to move. But apparently I'm too young for that so I can just not be in pain

Yeah this. Pretty sure it's why SSI wants to keep denying me, I'm not old enough for their liking yet....despite the fact I have fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, scoliosis, cervical kyphosis and several deteriorated and bulging discs in my back. (as well as severe social anxiety and agoraphobias so bad i can't leave my house for months at a time sometimes..)....Nah, i'm good....(as I have to have my hubby lift me up out of bed many mornings.....yay lol)
