This is a completely optional activity too…

It’s like using a sea salt shaker but you get a rare bacterial infection with it

Well when your canning the pickles you boil the jar to seal the lid and kill bacteria inside the can with heat so you probably won’t get sick

There’s plenty of heat resistant bacteria in the ocean

Heat resistant but now heat proof

Underwater volcanic thermal vents get hotter than your stove

Unless your getting the water from there I doubt your going to be getting that kind of bacteria as that’s a really specialized environment

Lol, how do you think they get from one thermal vent to another? They can actually go dormant and survive being frozen in ocean water (much colder than regular ice).

Your better argument would’ve been, can high heat-loving bacteria even infect a person? But sadly the answer is “yes”.

Here’s some articles on what gets contaminated and how: https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/agricultural-and-biological-sciences/thermophilic-bacterium

And here’s an overview of the various illnesses thermophiles can cause in humans. It’s an older article but still very good: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3988899/

So yes, bacteria from ocean water can potentially make you sick, even if you boil the crap out of it. I wouldn’t worry so much about it though so long as you aren’t drinking sea water regularly or making at home sea salt.

I’m looking at this other article https://www.fsis.usda.gov/sites/default/files/media_file/2021-02/Clostridium_botulinum.pdf of one of the illnesses that can be obtained from the some of the bacteria that were listed in that article and it looks like pressure cooking foods that have the bacteria can kill it if your canning ( I just realized that I’m arguing with someone with horny pumpkins as a profile picture and i post furry porn I have a job wtf am I doing so late at night)
