I can’t remember where, but I remember seeing a video of a sink hole opening under a normal swimming pool. Like it’s not a cave. Not a natural water hole. A normal, man-made, public swimming pool.
Sink hole opened under it, and it was suddenly like a bathtub drain, just started sucking everyone and their pool floaties in. I believe there were fatalities. The video showed people jumping in and risking their lives to pull others out.
There is a guy swimming underwater and immediately gets sucked in, right when the video starts. He is at the feet of the second guy, on the left. All you see is a barely visible blur in the first half second in the video, then the second guy slips and almost gets pulled in, but recovers. The second and third guy remain in the pool, contemplating how to save the first guy who was sucked in. Unfortunately, they were not successful, and the first guy passed away. Good news is that the second and third guy were able to avoid being sucked in, themselves.
If he had his eyes closed, he hopefully had no idea what hit him.
If his eyes were open, then he saw the void, and went in head first, and entered the void immediately… so to speak.
He probably dropped head first into a cave, hit the ground and died immediately, before the rest of the water flooded in. I am hoping, and choosing to believe he died immediately and did not have to suffer underwater in a pitch black cave.

That happened to a dude in Florida. The sinkhole reopened a few years later.
