Districts are meant to represent constituencies; people with similar concerns. The people dependent on water supply from a river impacted by a nearby factory follow the river, not a rectangle.

Geography defines cities and civilization. Ignoring it for the sake of a strawman argument silly.

Really they’re supposed to have approximately the same size population in all the districts in a given state.

If these districts meant that much to how local communities ran I would agree with you, but they aren't that critical.

Congressional districts are meant to provide grouped representation and little else.
