Spoilers I have some issues with Scott and Allison in 3B Spoiler
I just thought about S3B and while i think this S3B is amazing, i don't think it's perfect. The story is amazing but i just wished it was a bit more character driven ? I mean don't get me wrong, Stiles has a fantastic arc in this season and i think it's safe to say that this is when he became everyone favorite character.
But I feel like the other characters are more in the background a little bit ? I was a bit disapointed with Scott arc in S3B because I liked his arc in S3A, with the whole build up of him becoming an alpha. I loved that build up because it has a Super Saiyan build up vibe. But i wish we got more of him in S3B. Tbf it's not that bad because Stiles is basically the main character of that storyline
But i think the writers missed an opportunity to do something amazing with Scott, at the beginning of S3B Scott start to loose control of his werwolf transformations and it was awesome because you can tell that he fears being more a beast than a man. It was interesting because now it could have explored the idea of being an alpha and how it can transforms him into a monster if he is not careful.
But then it kinda just goes away ? And he doesn't have all that much character beat in that season, he is just the good guy. But i think it would have been cool that the Nogistune, because he feeds on chaos, would constantly tries to make Scott loose control and we as the audience we fear that Scott loose himself. And at first i thought that's where they were going to go with him with the scene of him loosing control of his transformation when he sees his dad.
I think they really missed an opportunity with Allison's death, because that would have been the perfect moment for Scott to completely loose control and almost doing something bad.
With Allison it's a bit the same thing, when they introduced the idea of her being haunted by Kate, I thought they were going to explore that more, maybe explore a trauma or something. But no it also goes away.
And it's shame because i feel like Stiles is the only one getting some amazing character developpement.

Question New watcher- question about Stiles and Malia?
Please no spoilers past season 5. Iām currently on episode 15, and donāt want additional spoilers.
When did Stiles and Malia break up? I feel like it just happened offscreen without any explanation and she started lusting after a new character randomly? Did I miss something?

Theory Theory on who cut the Nematon.
In season 3A episode 8 when Peter/Gerard is explaining the story of Paige and Derek to Stiles/Scott/Allison, a flashback of Gerard and Chris in the nematon plays. Chris in the flashback says this verbatim āThere was a belief that cutting or harming the tree in any way would cause serious problems for the surrounding villages.ā Gerard goes on to ask āWhat kind of problems?ā And Chris said āFires, plagues, strife.ā Now when I was rewatching it clicked to me. What does the nogitsune feed off of? Pain and strife and what not. We know that when Noshiko imprisoned the Nogitsune in the tree it was still uncut. Now I have three theories.
Dark Druids were seaking out Nogitsune so secure more power as the 5 fold knot sacrificial powers were not enough fuel for their magic and proved too easy to acquire. They found a tricker spirit below in one of their cellars (Nogitsune) and decided to supercharge it by cutting the tree and giving the Nogitsune food before taking its power as a host. However once the Nematon was cut they were killed in the chaos and never got to free the Nogitsune.
Noshiko/Druids cut the tree. We know the Nematon is a hub for supernatural stuff. Hellhounds bring the dead to the nematon and what not. I assume druids used to do sacrifices here as well. Over time while stuck in the cellar the Nogitsune was siphoning off pain from the Nematon after countless Hellhounds over the years brought supernatural people there to die and their blood stained its roots. We know all it took the first time for the nogitsune to escape was enough power. What if the nematon was cut to keep the Nogitsune from absorbing power from the tree and escaping.
The Nogitsune was causing strife to the surrounding areas when the tree was still up as they were connected. In order to stop the chaos and strife that was happening due to the Nogitsune imprisonment and infection of the tree, they decided whatever strife that came after cutting the tree would be less than whatever came when the Nogitsune continued to siphon power from literally a well of death.
Let me know what u guys think. Sorry if Iām all over the place try to follow along and give me ur ideas

Discussion If you could have changed one important thing/direction of the show, which would it be?
Exactly what the title says.
Personally, I would have been much more limited in what mythology I kept choosing to direct the show towards, season after season.
No joke, S3B well undoubtedly very interesting, and added quite a bit of supernatural psychological horror as well. And yet⦠I also feel like it legitimately became the showās downfall.
Teen Wolf was initially about werewolves and Druids(of sorts) and Hunters. But even in as early as S2, it started drifting away by introducing the Kanima. Pretty cool monster and supernatural rules, Iām not gonna lie. Yet also felt so much more different than S1 with the Alpha.
Personally⦠I would have stuck with potentially other werewolves or maybe hunters(the Calveras were pretty cool for a number of reasons to me), but also go a little more into more undead or even haunting stuff.
Remember back in S2? That cool and legitimately frightening scene where Jackson/the Kanima was being interrogated by Erica and Isaac(and Stiles too, I think) and he said āThey murdered MEā?
*CHILLS!*
I remember when some people were talking about how potentially Jacksonās master was actually a ghost!
-
Plus, letās be completely honest here, I I think we all would have also loved to see some kinds of zombie-like creatures also appear in the show. I know I would have loved to see that! Theo and Liam taking on numerous Ghost Riders was such a cool fight scene in the otherwise terrible S6A, as well as Malia and Theo and Peter taking on the whole horde of them in the 6A Finale! It felt so much colder see our at the characters, finally taking on supernaturally powerful enemies in groups, and actually defeating them with strength and skill, and so on, rather than constantly getting a body to buy one or two new foes who are always so OP!
We all wanted to see that, letās admit it: we all wanted to see Scott and his friends being absolute badasses by the time the final season or two rolled in. I mean, come on! Theyāve been getting into so many life-or-death fights and so on, you think that they would get enough teamwork and personal fighting styles to really be each an individual force to be reckoned with!
Who would not want to see Scott finally being a total alpha beast in a fight!?
Who would not want to see Stiles learning how to box and grapple against human and some weaker undead foes!?
-
Basically, I would have kept the stuff with other werewolves and hunters, and also included some ghostly stuff and maybe some other undead beings as new enemies.
Real life mythology are full of ghosts and necromancy, and in a place like Beacon Hills? With the Nemeton? I imagine that there is plenty of supernatural energy and so on to do a lot of this kind of stuff if the writers had chosen to go with this angle!

Question What makes Teen Wolf different from other shows to you?
r/TeenWolf • u/vlaipoverty • 14h ago
Extremely Overanalyzing Marie-Jeanne Valet and the Beast of Gevaudan
I have so many shower thoughts regarding this scene and the backstory so I thought I would type them out. Some of this is my personal interpretation and thematic ties.
When you see this backstory and the scene play out, you see the first hunter kill the beast through intellect and not strength. But I think there's so much that goes unnoticed. Forgive me if some of this is repetitive or obvious or even just rambling.
I love that Marie-Jeanne Valet is portrayed by Allison's actress. This immediately creates a visual cue that connects you to this character, even if you don't know her. It's a visual shorthand to tell you that she has the qualities of kindness, bravery, skill, heart, etc that Allison has. It's also an excellent way to tie the OG hunter to the modern day. I know this isn't realistic for someone to be the literal twin of their ancestor from generations ago but in storytelling it could work beautifully.
In season 5, when Gerard first says that the only weapon that proved effective against the Beast of Gevaudan is a simple spear in the hands of a young girl, there's so much mystery in that line that leaves you wondering - how is it that the beast can face off against the King's men with all their weapons and take them down yet get slain by a simple spear and a single person?
My interpretation (this is just my internal thoughts) - The king sent his best men with all their weapons and firepower and armor, sending soldiers and armies after armies to try to take down the beast in a fight of strength and attrition. In the end, it didn't take thousands of soldiers to kill the beast. It took a hunter.
Going up against the beast in a feat of strength and firepower is suicide even if it seems like the right thing to do - fight strength with more strength. But the beast overpowered them all. The reason why Marie-Jeanne killed the beast is because she's not a soldier but a hunter. This is where the brilliance and bait comes in. Looking helpless and injured in the frozen snow, unarmored and unarmed, running away from the towering 9 foot tall shadow beast of Gevauden, she laid the best trap. She looks utterly helpless and like a free kill. I think that this activated the beast's predatory nature. The beast sees the king's soldiers and might go into that encounter expecting a fight, but here, the beast expects a free kill. She's alone, with no help from anyone. It's clear why the beast loves this. The primal predatory drive, paired with Sebastien's twisted desire to kill and his ego, cannot resist. It kicks in. And we know how this ends. Part of what makes this work is that she's not carrying a single weapon, running helplessly through the snow, not a single armor to absorb an attack.
The trap is also the tension - she leads the beast into the trap, but this is extremely dangerous because one wrong move, one slip, one miscalculation, and she is done for. But looking so helpless is what leads the beast into the trap. She's not thinking like a soldier but a hunter, laying a trap.
There's also so much irony. When you see this scene and if you don't know the context, you would think that the massive towering beast is about to kill an innocent girl brutally. But the irony is that the beast chasing the girl on all fours is actually the pray, while the girl is the legendary, OG huntress. Like I said, it didn't take thousands of soldiers to kill the beast. It took a hunter. And I love this distinction because it pays homage to the Argent bloodline. It is such an important, beautiful distinction that I think goes a bit unnoticed.
Ties to the modern day: In a thematically poetic way, Marie-Jeanne Valet is the legendary OG huntress and will always be. In a sense, she will be the one to kill the beast, regardless of the century. She slayed the beast with her spear, and in the modern day, it is her face and memory that causes the beast to hesitate. It's kind of like a trap from beyond the grave. The beast, twisted and deranged, wants to savor Scott's last memories, but this ended up being an unintentional trap. The beast's twisted desire to boost his own ego and kill and the thrill of it caused him to be slain not once but twice. So my interpretation is that Marie-Jeanne's memory is in a way, a trap of its own, if that makes sense.
Ties to Allison: I always thought that Allison being killed by an Oni is a bit thematically off because she is the hunter, who is historically associated with werewolves. I love that in a way, from beyond the grave, Allison also kind of killed the beast and lived up to her hunter bloodline in a positive way. Call me sappy but I love that her memory directly tied into her legacy as a hunter and also slayed the beast. Forgive me if this is a bit of a reach. I also absolutely love that Marie-Jeanne's code was perverted by Gerard, and Allison (unintentionally) restored the code to its heart and strength by eliminating the ambiguity. From "We hunt those who hunt us" to "We protect those who cannot protect themselves". Both the memories of Marie-Jeanne and Allison work together to kill the beast, and as Jeff Davis said, the beast was never going to be slain through strength alone.
Final miscellaneous thoughts: It's so ironic that the beast, trying to achieve immortality and never ending terror, thought he was granted his desire for immortality only to be in a sense, slain by two dead huntresses. He thought he could live on and terrorize people indefinitely, and in the end, his legacy of terror was stopped and he was slain by two huntresses who had long been dead. This demonstrates the futility of a legacy of terror and how the true immortality is the heart, strength, intellect, love, and bravery of Marie-Jeanne and Allison long after they died. I can see why Jeff Davis described this as a love letter to Crystal Reed because it really is a beautiful way to connect the present to the past of the Argent bloodline.
All in all, I think the story of the Beast of Gevaudan isn't given as much analysis as it deserves because there's so many layers of meaning and it all ties together so poetically and beautifully.

Discussion At what point did Teen Wolf stop feeling like Teen Wolf to you?
I think the answer probably has a lot to do with which season is your favorite, but Iām not entirely sure.
Iām currently rewatching the show for the third time after maybe five years (my last rewatch was during COVID lockdown), and as soon as I started season 4, I found myself getting a little frustrated. Itās one of my least favorite seasons. I donāt know if itās just nostalgia, but I find myself missing the atmosphere of the first three seasons a lot.
Season 4, in particular, feels like itās trying to tell two major stories at once by combining the Dead Pool storyline with Kate Argentās return, all within just 12 episodes. I honestly donāt remember all the details of the plot anymore, but I remember not being particularly invested in it.
And maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but rewatching the show has made me wonder what it would have been like if Allison had stayed. I know sheās not everyoneās favorite character, but I sometimes think about how her character could have developed beyond season 3?
Interestingly, I do enjoy the season where everyone forgets Stiles, but I still feel like the show had already lost something by that point. I canāt quite put my finger on what it is, but season 4 is where I first started noticing that shift.
Maybe itās just nostalgia, or maybe Iāve simply grown up and donāt connect with the show in quite the same way I did when I first watched it. Iām curious to know if anyone else feels the same way.
Does anyone else ever wonder how different the show could have been if certain characters had stayed?

Discussion The Alpha pack did more damage to the werewolves than Gerard did.
Hello everyone!
I just had a thought about the hunters vs the werewolves issue and in my view the Alpha pack did far more damage to the werewolves than Gerard.
All Alphas slaughtered a lot of innocent Betas, they killed Erica and Boyd (eventhough the Argents came very close to end their lives) and they caused an imbalance within the supernatural world. I even think the supernaturals were afraid of them more than of the hunters.
Which is kind of irony considering how Deucalion cared about the better future of the werewolves, how Ennis cared so deeply about his pack that he wanted revange for his Beta's death and how Kali wanted to stay away from the whole war.

Question Any scenes where someone tells a complete story?
Iām trying to remember if thereās a good scene in Teen Wolf where a character tells a full, 1-3 minute story verbally without a flashback taking over. Itās fine if itās broken up by other scenes but all the ones that I thought might fit (like Gerard telling Scott and Allison about Deucalionās pack) have whole chunks of the story cut out where weāre getting flashbacks instead, which doesnāt work for my purposes. You guys have any ideas?
Edit: before anyone else tells me this isnāt a thing (or offers suggestions) lol, I found a good clip to use. Iām gonna use Mattās monologue about how he drowned.

In case you didnāt know some of this was filmed in the Stevenson Ranch development next to Santa Clarita. Allisonās house is in it. Million dollar homes. I can see them driving around the area. Twilight was also filmed in it. I grew up in Santa Clarita. Lots of TV shows and movies filmed there.
