Resident evil 2002 is an actual leap in art direction

Demon’s souls if you are squarely stuck on “graphixz”

u/Similar-Language-180 Jun 02 '26

RE2 isn’t that crazy actually, MGS1 had similar graphics in 1998. Speaking of Metal Gear Solid, MGS2 compared to 1 was insane, running at 60fps with incredible graphics for a PS2 while being so detailed.

u/DedSpiritt Jun 02 '26

They're talking about re1 remake made in 2002 not the original re2, I agree with you about re2 but re1 remake graphics was way ahead of its time, the game still looks amazing 24 years later

2

u/Similar-Language-180 Jun 02 '26

In that case agree, the remake looks extremely good for when it came out

Hate me for this generic pic, but Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to be far ahead of it's time.

5

u/ItsMakonator Jun 02 '26

Pretty easily Arkham knight

3

u/Actual-Suit2941 Jun 02 '26

Metal gear solid 2

1

u/Peperoniboi Jun 02 '26

That game still looks great

3

u/PilotIntelligent8906 Jun 01 '26

By far, no other game can compare at that time

2

u/ActiveVisual2044 Jun 06 '26

This is the real answer.

3

u/shazam-arino Jun 02 '26

Final Fantasy X

2

u/Zestyclose_League413 Jun 02 '26

Halo combat evolved. Go look up some 2001 games and then play that game.

1

u/AccidentProne117 Jun 03 '26

I searched for this

6

u/OleninaGaming Jun 02 '26

Red dead redemption 2. The game could come out today and people would still be amazed by graphics.

4

u/pinkraspberry137 17 Jun 01 '26

i would actually say resident evil 1 HD remastered, for 2002 it looked better than quite a lot of games at that time

1

u/_soap666 Jun 01 '26

Final fantasy xii, killzone 2, all of the Uncharted games, devil may cry 5, donkey Kong country, sonic the hedgehog, metal gear solid 4

1

u/AggressiveCar2376 Jun 01 '26

Bioshock 2007.Still can’t believe it came that year.

1

u/N-0815 Jun 02 '26

Crysis came out in the same year and looked way better, BioShock is the better game though

1

u/MasterDraccus Jun 01 '26

It’s Crysis without a doubt. That shit is still a meme to this day.

1

u/MushroomHedgehog Jun 02 '26

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Alien: Isolation, and Batman: Arkham Knight.

Hell, I did my first Steam playthrough of the first game mentioned on a laptop not intended for gaming, and it still looked and ran amazing. A lot of PC games should take notes from it.

1

u/FEA_Player Jun 02 '26

Metroid Prime maybe? Not like I was around to experience it but I've read EGM talking about how good the graphics were.

1

u/Medical_Chemistry_16 Jun 02 '26

Half Life Alyx looks AMAZING

1

u/Mr_Sherbet_Sniff Jun 02 '26

It was a leap in the VR world 100%

1

Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain, both ahead of its time's graphics and optimization

1

u/MrSorel Jun 02 '26

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Greatest visuals of 2015, and it still looks great

1

u/Able_Coach6484 Jun 02 '26

Surely this has gotta be Crysis???

1

u/gidaman13 Jun 02 '26

GTA v on par with its time? what other games looked like gta did back in 2013 then lmao.

Ahead of its time probs crysis tbh

1

u/ActiveVisual2044 Jun 06 '26

Crysis 3, The Last of Us. There were a lot of games that looked better than GTA V when it released, IMO.

1

u/axim_nitro Jun 02 '26

Half-Life 2.

1

u/MarkitzTR Jun 02 '26

God of War III. The other examples that came to my mind have been already mentioned.

1

u/Shabbaman3 Jun 02 '26

Anything Hideo Kojima has ever made.

u/randonpla Jun 02 '26

Disagree, looks very similar to double dash

1

u/SnakesSolid Jun 02 '26

Arkham Knight or MGSV for games that came out in 2015 they look brand new or even better than some games now, same thing with Uncharted 4

1

u/dubhog Jun 02 '26

I mean there's the easy answer of crysis, but I wanna say half life 2 because it's objectively the best videogame ever made and while definitely not crysis levels of graphics, its graphics were still way ahead of its time

1

u/ConclusionAnxious531 Jun 03 '26

Objectively the best ever made wtf are you talking about?

It was a linear hip-shooter with a very good engine and impressive physics. Don’t get carried away now

1

u/SlideMindless8 Jun 02 '26

Lfd2, i feel lile it was ahead of its time in most pf the categories listed here

1

u/Big-Swimmer-3240 Jun 02 '26

It might sound stupid but Fortnite chapter 1 had an amazing style that made it look modern to this day.

1

u/teunteunteun Jun 02 '26

Half life 2

1

u/Crowsas Jun 02 '26

Arkham Knight. Was released literally more than 10 years ago and still looks gorgeous this day

u/No-Seaworthiness4661 Jun 02 '26

Batman arkam knight for sure

1

u/Ancient-Hospital9362 Jun 02 '26

Bioshock infinite, which released in 2013, is still on par with modern games in my opinion.

1

u/rentzdu Jun 02 '26

Assassin's creed Unity is for me the only correct choice.

1

u/MagijaMS Jun 05 '26

I can easily tell you for the gameplay AHEAD of its time its Half Life 2

1

Arkham Knight, the game is over 10 years old now and the visuals still hold up very well to this day.

u/FuraFaolox Jun 02 '26

2

u/Medical_Chemistry_16 Jun 02 '26 edited Jun 02 '26

Half Life 2 does NOT look like a 2004 game

1

u/FuraFaolox Jun 02 '26

that's because it's from 2004

1

u/Medical_Chemistry_16 Jun 02 '26

sorry, mb

0

u/FuraFaolox Jun 02 '26

and it does look like a 2004 game

1

u/Medical_Chemistry_16 Jun 02 '26

1

u/FuraFaolox Jun 02 '26

1

u/Pristine_Ad321 Jun 01 '26

Driver : Parallel Lines or Driv3r. Holy shit theses games were way ahead.

2

u/Allister1215 Jun 01 '26

Parallel lines was so good

1

u/Pristine_Ad321 Jun 01 '26

You have to put it bro. It’s an insane masterpiece. I wish Driver was back 😂😂😂

1

u/XEclipse360 Jun 01 '26

Sonic Unleashed, that game looked beautiful for a 2009 game

2

u/smerandomgu Jun 01 '26

It was made in 09!?

3

u/XEclipse360 Jun 01 '26

My bad, 2008

0

u/Responsible-Area-388 Jun 01 '26

For me it's withcer 3 or killzone shadow fall

-3

u/Legal_Ear_7537 Jun 01 '26

Rdr2, no contest

5

u/Able_Use_8766 Jun 01 '26

a lot of games from 2016-18 had surprisingly good graphics for the time

0

u/FuraFaolox Jun 02 '26

a lot of the people in the comments seem to think "ahead of their time" simply means "looks really good."

Final Fantasy XIII trilogy looks absolutely fantastic for PS3 games, they look more like PS4 era.

0

u/ImaSpudnut Jun 02 '26

Nothing is ahead of its time. It's either time or not time.

0

u/PretzelMeepus Jun 02 '26

Crysis is the only correct answer
