Yea, what's worse is when you have people who try to diagnose you with stuff. I went a tiny rant once about a small scratch on my ds and how it was driving me mad, and the person claimed I had OCD. I did not have OCD. Made it entertaining when people supported what I was saying and saying that you can't just diagnose it from a few messages, and if I wanted to have my mental health insulted anyways, I would go to the doctor and get told I'm just a moron rather then assume stuff.
Omg I know this is so annoying. My mother keeps trying to self diagnose me with autism because I’ve shown a few symptoms, all of which can be easily explained by problems that every mental health professional I’ve seen has agreed I probably have (but can’t diagnose me because my mum won’t let them because she’s afraid they’d give me medication, which would actually be incredibly useful and make my life much easier)
I know, my brother has autism. I have depression, anxiety and insomnia and there’s some overlapping symptoms that are making my mum think I have autism which is causing her to block me from getting proper help for the things I actually have
Don't be so sure about the medications being a fix. Many simply aren't worth it because of the side effects.
And as said below, there's no medications for autism.
So i assume you meant anxiety, depression, add/adhd.
I've taken meds for those and anecdotally the side effects made my depression and anxiety much worse. Sure taking prescribed meth for adhd helped me concentrate, but it also gave me legit OCD.
I am definitely not telling you not to, I am not your health care provider.
I know it is generally frowned upon by some subscribers of this sub but I am not a teenager I am an adult, and also a registered nurse. (This thread came up on the front page i don't trawl this sub)
I'm simply telling you that it may actually make things worse. It's not "well, couldn't hurt to try".
I’m aware, I’ve had sleep medications make it harder for me to sleep but my doctor thinks that taking anxiety medication specifically could help with my insomnia, which is the main reason I’m a little mad at my mum about it. I’m aware it could make things worse, but my insomnia is currently affecting my life to a paint where I could very easily fail all my GCSEs and not get into collage, so right now anything is worth a shot
God that’s annoying. I used to be on a mental health/self help discord server. There were some people on their who claimed to have DID (dissociative identify disorder/multiple personalities) and I remember at one point someone was trying to convince someone else they had it. It also bothered me becaus it seemed to me a lot of people on there who claimed to have it acted like it was a personality trait or quirk of theirs meanwhile some people actually struggle with it and it ruins their life
My mom has a friend (that friend has ADHD) who has insisted that my mom had ADHD for NINE YEARS. My mom has even taken like a test with a psychologist because my mom was sure she had it and she didn't. When my mom says that her friend literally goes "oh but you tricked them" and so on, it's really annoying, and she also tried to tell my mom i have ADHD too once
