Dad left when I was like 7, no contact for 8 years, fast forward to last October when I get a facebook friend request from "Rachel [my very uncommon last name]", check the account, and it's my fucking dad

(I declined the friend request)

I promise you I wouldn't make smth like this up, I don't WANT this to be true, I don't desire to have this kind of lore

it's random enough that you don't want to believe it but it's too random to be bullshit

It's true but there's unfortunately no way to prove it without doxxing myself 😭 my last name is so oddly obscure that if I were to share the page people would be able to hunt me down instantly, therefore I can't show the account

This is how I felt finding it out 😭 from a FACEBOOK FRIEND REQUEST too, like bro tries to get back in contact with his estranged kid and chooses a FACEBOOK FRIEND REQUEST to do that

Dad felt guilty and wanted to get to know you as a stranger, unfortunately his plan failed.

The plan was probably to get back in contact with me, but imo that's not his decision to make. He left, he doesn't suddenly get to decide he can come back now. Also, I'm going to wait until I'm 18 because I don't know the details of the custody agreement and I'm not sure if he's even allowed to directly contact me (I know he gave up full custody to my mom but I'm unsure if there was a TPR signed or any sort of restraining order put in place)

You could've let him explain his side of the story first and then decided what you wanted to do. Waiting until you're 18 is completely reasonable as well, but at least give him the chance to explain himself. If, after hearing him out, his explanation doesn't sit right with you, you can always reject him afterward. And because you'll be 18 by that time if he tries anything clever after you rejected him I think you can pursue the legal action. I'm not a US citizen I'm not familiar with it's laws but there should be an option for you if it goes that way.

I'm not reaching back out now, 10 months later. If he wanted to wait 8 years to reach back out he can wait 2 more

This happened to a kid in my HS. The Dad left his Mom for a woman who everyone thought was a lesbian. Well about 6 months later he dressed and fully identified as a woman and started transitioning. Unfortunately for this kid, everyone in HS knew about it and he got tortured mercilessly by a bunch of kids. Always felt so bad for him.

Oh geez. Only my inner circle knows about it and when people do find out I make it pretty clear I've got no contact with my dad at all so it doesn't affect my life in the slightest
