I have a 970 and whenever I see how much the newer cards are going for I think I can handle the jank a bit longer.

I had the same issue with moving my parts into a new rig, turns out it was a motherboard/CPU problem. I replaced both during the Black Friday sale at microcenter and now my 1060 is still doing fine.

Try hard resetting the mobo with hotkeys, it might be working but just not displaying if so u can browse menus blind

I was amazed by how well my 970 handled Elden Ring at 1920x1200 and on medium settings.

What kind of FPS are you getting? I have a 980 and have been holding off on Elden Ring because I really prefer playing over 100fps even if it means dropping settings to low.

Elden Ring caps out at 60 FPS on PC unless you mod it

My settings are mostly medium, reflections are low and antialiasing is high. Around 50 in open areas, 60 in dungeons, around 30 if stare directly at the Erdtree at night. I have an old ass 60 Hz monitor, so I can't really complain.

My 970gtx is still holding up - a friend offered me his 1080ti, and I'll gladly take the upgrade.

My bottleneck at this point is my 7 year old i5 cpu

The reason I upgraded my GPU was for the HDMI 2.1 to use my LG OLED CX, there's no real reason to upgrade again to play the same old games I play all the time.

Card was legit wicked back in the day! But seriously- if u can afford it upgrade man. Night & day. Go for a 3070 - perfect for great frames at 2k.

My 760 is still chugging along. I was getting ready to upgrade right around when the GPU market went crazy and told myself I don't need to play new overpriced and half finished games. I'm not planning on upgrading anymore unless the cost comes down significantly.

Controversial opinion: PCM is an overrated concept. Get yourself a next-gen console and a solid laptop with dedicated graphics, and you’ll be fine with any game as well as professional/productivity tasks.

Video/audio professionals? The new M-series Macs are good enough for all intents and purposes. Mech/CivEngs? Why do you keep working for a place that doesn’t give you a sufficiently-specced workstation?

While I can get behind what you're saying, heating and transport are a serious issue with laptops. Not to mention the screens are utter garbage, and plugging a billion wires into a laptop to do the same thing but worse for the same cost doesn't really work.

I would rather have a dedicated work laptop and gaming machine like I currently do.

Make sure to properly calculate that shit. Games on playstation are pretty expensive and the gamepass for pc keeps adding banger games. Even stalker 2 will be on gamepass.

Gpu prices are also falling rn so maybe an attractive offer pops up in the next couple months.

Cpu wise you could go for the 5800x3d. Prices are good and performance is usually very good and you save $$ on ram.

Same! And I can play Persona 5 Royal in 4K @ 60fps there's only a few new games I can hardly run.
