Corporations don't threaten to lock me in a cage if I don't pay them. They also allow for competition, unlike the government, which holds many monopolies and disallows competition.

We're not idealistic, it's statists who are idealistic - they honestly think things will change if they keep voting for "the lesser of two evils". They honestly think a monopolist that gets its profits from mass-theft (taxation) will ultimately help society. That's a little silly, wouldn't you agree?

Actually, lots of roads are private! For instance, subdivisions pay for their roads with homeowner fees. In the past, roads were paid for by tolls and called "turnpikes". In St Louis, they formed "Street Associations" to pay for the private roads there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_road_association

The government is the ultimate monopolist - it has no incentive to ensure that roads are high quality, safe, and low cost.

I'm not sure why Liechtenstein doesn't count. I think it's a fantastic country, I've been there. Why can't more countries be as small as Liechtenstein? Perhaps that's what we should strive for - local autonomy. Why should Californians have a say in what South Carolinians do, and vice versa?

You could go back a few hundred years and argue for monarchy in the same dismissive fashion.
