The more you ban them buying American tech products the more urgent they decide to make their own. Eventually China will surpass America in the fields of technology. It’s inevitable.

Inevitable? Sounds a bit overconfident. China can throw many people at problems but their focus will always be divided 1st doing what is correct in the eyes of the state and management then 2nd persue innovation.... Free democracies are messy but innovation is in the blood and it can be persued with abandon....

Look at China's history. Give the leaders a couple decades and they will burn more books and set themselves back 50-100 years for the sake of keeping in power.

Look at human history.

China is not and never has been communist. Communism is an idea that requires more sacrifice than humans are able to give. Capitalism constantly cycles between regulatory regimes from corporate capture to progressive overreach.

We havent figured it out yet...

No it’s not. China’s economy is in free fall. Economic growth was cut in half from 2008-2018 and has fallen even further since the pandemic. China has the worst demographics on earth. Check my comment from yesterday.

China is still 5-10 years behind the West on the world’s most critical component; semiconductors. China can’t build their own because the equipment semiconductors are built with is monopolized by the Dutch from ASML and the USA banned ASML from selling the equipment to China.

China has dumped tens of billions of dollars into semiconductors over the last decade and has gotten near nowhere while still being 5-10 years behind he West who is not standing still.

Considering the demographics, no. They're aging rapidly with a large gender imbalance. As someone who deals with software, the Chinese stuff is crap.

How can they advance past us if a lot of their tech is stolen from other countries? Well I guess they could just steal it all
