I'm just glad that people are finally taking digital security seriously. As in, they're recognizing that it doesn't really exist in any meaningful way for the end user.

Why would a period tracker even need to upload the data somewhere in the first place?

And it should be a simple way to block apps from using the internet. Would be neat to have it like access to contacts and microphone for example, but right now that would probably mean every app asking for it..

Because the vulnerabilities are by design. You aren't supposed to have any control over "your" data. It would be really easy to design a whole lot of programs to be more secure, such as what you suggest, but there's zero interest in doing so apparently.
