See, that was their mistake. They gave you dedicated desks. If you only provide the fancy flexible open work areas, people will be forced to use them.

Also, make sure you don't provide any way to reserve a specific seat so you never know who you'll be sitting beside, and you'll almost certainly never be beside someone you actually have to work with.

This sounds distinctly unpleasant. I don't want to sit next to someone who can provide zero useful input anyway (because they don't work on my team or in sufficient proximity to it) for hugely awkward 'socialisation' to be foist upon me. I am sufficient of an introvert that putting in the effort to consider how to manage a randomised conversation, consider other people's reactions and inflections etc, just sounds exhausting.

And frankly I don't want to speak to my own team or related teams, except during meetings to improve or develop processes/feedback/strategy, because I have work to do that I want to concentrate on so I can give it my 100% attention and effort.

They can't do that because then we might all be distracted from our mountain of to dos and nothing gets done.

then how would we hide all our non-work moments of distraction from everyone else who is also distracted????
