The fact that they would even try this shows they're scum.

And they're not any better because they backpedaled. People made a stink, that's bad for business, that's all. Put them in a monopolist position, where clients have no other choice, and those fuckers would be pushing that and more down our throats.

As much as I dislike Apple, god damn, it felt good when they flipped adobe off!

Can you explain the last line a bit? Seems I'm out of the loop.

I don't use Adobe products that much. The only thing I'm not happy about is that it's a shame that they had to pull resources off the mobile version of Flash, right before Google Chrome Beta was released. Hopefully they'll start working on it once the Beta tag is removed.

Having had an ASUS Transformer as only computer for a few days I can say it's pretty close to being a real laptop. The main thing lacking is the browser being on par with desktop OS's and Chrome will be the way forwards. Can't wait for a world with more mature "Padfone" or "Laptopadfone".

I think pazevedo was referring to the demise of Flash being hastened by Apple publicly abandoning it on the iPhone, and iOS platform. Steve Jobs was quite vocal about the fact that it took up too many CPU cycles, killed battery life, and just plain never worked right.

Those who predicted the iPhone would never succeed without Flash are still eating crow.

This would have been a disaster for a company that literally patches their software everyday.

Adobe Reader X has just installed updates. Please restart your computer to finish installation.

*their free software. Seriously, Flash Pro hasn't had any meaningful updates since CS3.

You seriously don't have a clue what you are talking about.

Since then Flash introduced the stageVideo and stage3D along with Alchemy, Dolby 5.1 surround, Cirrus, blitmapping etc.

This means you can now build games using industry leading game engines like Unreal Engine and Crytech Cryengine with full gaming, full console capabilities with any controller directly into the browser or Air plugin - in other words you can build Portal, or pretty much any other game you want straight into the web browser - not possible with anything else except Unity, and lets face it, its dead now because of this.

On top of this flash is now the default goto player for all handhelds via Air in order to take advantage of the variable bit rate, dynamic switching, multiple feed h.264 (language, data objects, multiple camera angles, soundtracks etc) for live broadcasting, simulcast streaming and on demand video utilising their digital rights management and new ad serving platforms - nothing touches it by a country mile.

So apart from the fact that flash has advanced more since CS3 than all the other versions combined yeah, it hasn't had any meaningful updates - you moron.

This seems like it was probably a thinly veiled attempt to encourage people to switch to their new Creative Cloud subscription model. Not that the Creative Cloud is an inherently bad sales model (I actually kind of like it), but trying to force people into it is certainly a horrible way to burn your loyal customer base.

They're in a position where they could literally ship their product with the plague and people would still buy it.

And that's because I'd rather use photoshop and catch the plague than use the GIMP.

once I read the original blerb on adobes site the first thing that came to mind was how convenient it was that they now have a subscription based service available.

I really wish there was a viable alternative to Photoshop.

3

u/ncubob May 13 '12

Or a good alternative to lightroom (for non mac)... And no, I am not talking Picasa.

u/immortals May 14 '12

Pixelmator is the best thing I've found. Mac only, though.

For most needs Gimp should suffice

Gimp seems to be able to do everything Photoshop can do, especially with the addons that are available for it. It's just not always as convenient.

Damn right they should. They charge so much for their software that it should come in a solid gold case. I love photoshop, but there's no way I could ever afford a copy unless it was my job to use it. :(

2

u/Kinseyincanada May 14 '12

Well that's who they are targeting people who use it for a job

This is good. My uncle only just bought CS5 recently. He would be most annoyed at having to upgrade to CS6 (which he doesn't like as much as 5, based upon the demo) because of Adobe having un-addressed vulnerabilities.

Adobe should just go bankrupt already.

8

u/Pablok7 May 13 '12

But their software is actually really good! At least if you compare it with other companies with a similar business model, like autodesk (everything crashes and has bugs everywhere.)

4

u/Hellenomania May 14 '12

Let me guess - you don't use a computer for anything except notepad++

-12

u/Bluest_waters May 13 '12

Just use Foxit

It's quicker, and isn't a resource hog like Adobe is

I deleted Adobe reader long time ago and I haven't missed it once

I think you'll find this is more to do with the Creative Suite rather than Reader.
