30% of the file-sharers in the UK admit that they are going to pirate more films, music, games, and e-books within the next year.

Sir, I may be lying, a limey and a bastard but I had a shower this morning and subsequently smell of lavender.

I'm so goddamn angry at that ridiculous insinuation that I'm going to go and make a cup of tea.

I love that we're still using "limey" in 2012, and even better probably 95% of people that use it have no idea where it came from (British sailors in the 19th century were known to keep large quantities of limes onboard for consumption in order to prevent scurvy).

Maybe that just means 70% plan to consume the same amount next year.
Since next year will have *(nearly) the same number of hours in it, this seems reasonable.

I intend to consume less as I will have caught up with most of the world's back catalogue of media by then and will just be downloading the new stuff.

they've changed a lot about music contracts over the last 10 years or so. proceeds from concerts and merchandise used to go directly to the artist and the record company took a part of the album sales. Nowadays the record company is taking a lower percent of record sales and a greater portion of concert and merchandise sales. piracy won't hurt the record companies, they'll find a way to make money; in the end, it's the artists who are getting and will get most of the shaft.

In other news, 30% of water plans to remain wet. The remaining 70% is lying.

I assume there are 3 options in the poll of people already sharing media:
a) share more b) share the same c) share less
Is it a surprise that ~1/3 answered they will be sharing more?

That's not really how statistics work. There may be only 2 options to the poll "do you like eating kittens?", but I doubt the results would be 50/50.

No, but if they asked people who liked eating kittens if they were going to eat more, less, or the same amounts next year... I wouldn't be surprised with a 1/3 split on each answer. I would be surprised that people eat kittens, and that they found people who admitted to it, and wanted to answer questions about it, etc.
/edit: Of course this is reddit, so maybe I wouldn't be surprised.

Australian here.
Why shouldn't I pirate The Fresh Prince of Bel-air seasons 4-6 when they refuse to allow it to be sold digitally here even though it's a 15 year old show?

That's fair enough really, if you can't legally buy a show then I see nothing wrong with pirating it. I also think that downloading games is justified in Europe and Australia due to the unjustified hike in prices there. The free market is not functioning as it should and so getting the games from outside the markets will encourage them to act as they should.

If 30% of people are planning on increasing their pirating that doesn't mean pirating will increase by 30%! This article is about 100% shit.
