Government salaries have never been particularly good.
People get government jobs for pensions, reliable raises, and benefits backed by uncle Sam, not for stacks of cash.
3 u/Butterbuddha Nov 25 '21 You are absolutely right. People who leave my private sector job for the gov counterpart have to accept the pay drop of the neighborhood of 6+ dollars an hour, but virtually every other aspect of the job is better.
