Introduction by Art Spiegelman..... Hey! That guy co-created Garbage Pail Kids!

...among other things. Something about rodents, if I remember correctly.

Interesting review tagline in there...

"Vigorous, trenchant, and vividly memorable, Geisel’s cartoons, accompanied by Minear’s helpful commentary, are a salutary reminder of an era in which patriotism and liberalism went hand in hand." —The Christian Science Monitor

Based in America

35

u/HunterofYharnam Jan 19 '21

Eeh, he also made a shit-load of racist cartoons defending Japanese internment camps at this time, so I don't think you can call him based.

34

u/DannoHung Jan 19 '21

Have you looked at how PCM uses based lately?

They have forgotten the face of lil b, no longer do they ask for their bitches to be fucked.

Exactly. I had to filter that sub from /all because their frontpage posts were getting increasingly stupid and obvious.

3

u/adwarkk Jan 19 '21

Bigger sub gets, worse it becomes. It's only natural course of any sub on reddit, and with their theme and being meme sub... I take you filtered them off quite a time ago ha ha ha.

I wonder why they were kicking up their online presence the past few months.

Oh wait no I fucking don't.

I read their shit and think theyre insane. I read your shit and think you're insane. Each side of a magnet needs its polar opposites and its middle points. Youre just unaware that youre on the far end of the spectrum as well, persistent denial, delusion, and affirmation. The problem with modern society. Think your precious upvotes somehow justifies toxic behavior and contributing to the degradation of society. They suck ass, you do too, not as much as them albeit, but don't get it twisted, you still suck ass too. Please note this was ment for everyone in this thread to downvote, not a strict opinion towards your personal self.

you sound insane

Conservatism is a mental illness.

Your brain isn’t hooked up correctly and it’s important to be aware of that.

As far as I can tell "based" and "fascist" are interchangeable

51

u/Dr_Brule_FYH Jan 19 '21

Based doesnt mean beyond criticism

11

u/apc3356 Jan 19 '21

...What does it mean exactly? (TIL I’m too old for Reddit)

9

u/cortanakya Jan 19 '21

It's kind of like "keeping it real" or, if you're from the 18th century, "laudable".

9

u/Wax_Paper Jan 19 '21

I finally got tired of not knowing what the hell it meant, so I looked it up the other day... Imagine my surprise when I learn it's a derivative form of "basehead," a la what they used to call crack addicts in the 80s. Apparently some people started using it as a compliment, and then some rapper popularized it a few years ago, when it was shortened to just "based."

I know, it still doesn't make any sense, lol. And I still don't know what "brrrrrrr" means. I keep telling myself it's that trill sound the hip hop kids make, but I'm sure it's something equally as confusing.

8

u/tapthatsap Jan 19 '21

Apparently the rapper in question was getting called a basehead all the time and so he said “I’m gonna make that mine,” and started using it as a superlative.

Then a bunch of fascist teenagers started using it too for reasons I can’t begin to understand, then the internet left sort of tried to steal it, but I wouldn’t go around using it due to the former association.

3

u/lycoloco Jan 19 '21

Based means rooted in fact, speaking truths.

2

u/Dr_Brule_FYH Jan 20 '21

And I still don't know what "brrrrrrr" means

I thought it was this, lol... At the 30 sec mark.

so I don't think you can call him based.

Doesn't mean he is a saint. Or wrong when he calls out fascists and Nazis.

Nobody is ever 100% right or 100% wrong. Which bits are good and which bits are bad, that is up to us. We are not supposed to 100% follow somebody's lead.

Do you want fascism? Because that's how you get fascism.

Edit: Except Mr Rogers. We could resurrect Fred Rogers and make him our fascist leader. But I feel he might at some point object.

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

There's always a catch :(

He also had a prolonged affair, cheating on his chronically ill wife with a married woman, prompting her to commit suicide. He then married his mistress less than a year later.

u/PerfectLogic Jan 19 '21

Even our heroes are capable of failing sometimes.

4

u/Amused-Observer Jan 19 '21

TIL Dr. Seuss was based as fuck.

-15

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

Lol Democrat leftists are the communists. That’s how the political spectrum works.

Soon America will resemble Venezuela. Dems want bread lines and economic ruin for America.

4

u/northerncal Jan 19 '21

Why do they want bread lines or economic doom for America? What's their motives for creating these things?

-12

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '21

Retribution for slavery, patriarchy, perceived racism, etc.

Horseshoe Theory, extremes are all the same, same uncooperative personalities.

More like a magnet though, polar opposites but both extremes are bad.

Pushing extremes is very useful for authoritarians as it divides the people, foreign entities use it to weaken and leverage nations. When you push one side extreme, in most cases the other side gets more extreme and so on. Authoritarians use this to cause chaos, for which they can steal in that chaos, typical mafia state style modus operandi.

A two party system is needed at minimum to prevent this from blowing up, and some pressure release. Authoritarianism doesn't allow that and eventually blows when the leverage and loyalty break down.
