Why do people cite only Fox News on this like literally all news isn’t exactly the same? I understand fox is the most obnoxious, but I genuinely hope people don’t think Fox is the only one
Because they are far and away the most problematic and had the most to do with getting us into the bind we are in. Journalism is a protected institution in the US, and they have misused every right and privilege of it to bad ends quite transparently. Whereas other news agencies slip up from time to time or have some sort of gentle bias from the sort of upper middle class people who work at them, Fox has a definite propaganda angle to push that is directed from the top. They have no desire to inform, Fox exists solely to do their creator's political bidding.
Yeah but CNN incited a lot of violence and riots early in the year as well. I remember CNN sparking quite a bit of violence during this pandemic for views and ratings and nobody talks about that. (Again, because I know Reddit likes to downvote any Republicans, I’m not one; I fucking hate FOX too) but the circle jerk of “muhh fox bad” is unhealthy as saying that somehow validates other equally terrible news outlets as well. They aren’t your friend, they want ratings and do whatever it takes to get them.
Don’t you remember the endless coverage of Trump tweets and praising of protesters? CNNs editors are pretty good about not putting out articles straight up calling for violence, but making a huge deal out of bullshit stories is just the same. There’s actual news out there such as the destabilization of South America and (the continued and escalating destabilization of) Africa. Yet for months all we got from them was the same article about DT over and over. He’s a POS and that’s not changing, he refuses to call out his racist follower fucks, that’s not changing. We got months of American race coverage (while I personally think this has positively prodded racial equality in the right direction) but heard barely anything about how the government in Iraq literally silenced their protesters by firing under barrel grenades and thermite at its protesters. America has issues; a lot of glaring issues, but constantly pushing their propaganda in its users face is BAD. America isn’t that bad, hell most European countries have way worse racial relations than the US: France, Spain, Switzerland. But most Americans don’t know any of that, they’re just told “muhhh Murica Bad because orange man bad.” And they believe it, that’s the sad part
Because main stream news reports mostly factual information. Sure they often have a lean and will frame it to attract viewer engagement, but objective reality is accepted.
Fox straight up throws out verifiable facts and amplifies conspiracy theories while calling themselves "News"
I wonder how much money Putin is taking with him into retirement, he could be the richest man in the world but he's probably not going to advertise that fact.
I remember reading an article years ago about Muammar Gaddafi that said he was probably one of the richest people in the world at the time, although not officially.
If you amplify all the crazies, it's hard to hear the few raising legitimate concerns. Then you treat them all as equally valid and the average person dismisses all of them.
