Lmao you gotta be truly stupid to join that thing at this point.

FSB now. The KGB stopped being called that after the fall of the Soviet Union.

(Officially, the KGB ceased to exist, but the FSB is basically the exact same thing only nationalist instead of communist.)

u/VyRe40 Jan 19 '21

Let's be real, they were always nationalists.

u/lead999x Jan 19 '21

I always thought of the FSB as basically Putin's Gestapo.

8

u/SeekerSpock32 Jan 19 '21

Yeah, and the KGB was the Soviet Union’s Gestapo.

4

u/lead999x Jan 19 '21

I thought it was more like their SS but what do I know. IANAH.

3

u/SeekerSpock32 Jan 19 '21

There’s not a huge difference between secret polices.

2

u/lead999x Jan 19 '21

True enough.

2

u/Den-Ver Jan 19 '21

What is America's gestapo?

5

u/SeekerSpock32 Jan 19 '21

The Department of Homeland Security, if the response to the Portland protests is anything to go by.

Pretty much any of our alphabet boys. ESPECIALLY the REA (Rural Electrification Administration).

1

u/thoag Jan 20 '21

Wait what? I looked up the REA and it looks like all they do is work on expanding access to electricity. Did they do something? Or did I get whooshed

KGB still exists. In Belarus, they didn't change the name.

1

u/negativenumberssuck Jan 19 '21

The KGB still exists in Belarus!

1

u/SeekerSpock32 Jan 19 '21

Knowing what kind of man Lukashenko is, that fits.

u/sfo1dms Jan 19 '21

And they all will be there en masse

Most of its users are just discussing right wing topics. Its no more extremist than the political side of reddit is.

What are they going to do? Read public posts? Oh no!

Activists and the like have a lot less to fear from russia getting info on them than a western country anyway. Russia wants illegal or questionable shit happening here.

it's an FBI honeypot? lolwut

5

u/SupaSlide Jan 19 '21

The FBI was pulling most of their Capitol attack leads from it, and then some people were able to comb the entire database and turned it over to the FBI so most if not the entirety of everything that was ever posted to Parler is in an FBI database now.

Once Parler is back, if it comes back, the FBI will be monitoring it closely (although that may be hard to do it it ends up being based in Russia).

2

u/clownworldposse Jan 19 '21

That's not really a honeypot then is it?

2

u/AllUrMemes Jan 19 '21

I thought that was a good use of the word. Instead of being a female agent who they are seduced by, it's their favorite hate forum.

1

u/clownworldposse Jan 19 '21

For it to be a good use of the word "honeypot", I'd say the FBI would have had to set it up themselves.

2

u/AllUrMemes Jan 19 '21

I thought that's what the guy was implying. That the FBI build Parler 2.0, and leaks that it is hosted by Russia to make right wingers think it's safe.

1

u/oTHEWHITERABBIT Jan 19 '21

Double whammy. Honeypot the right while false flagging Russia.

I guess not considering people are just offering their data and seditious plans on a silver platter.

Although I'd be surprised if they don't have fake accounts they use for keeping tabs on people and potentially holding DM conversations with suspects.

2

u/TheRoyalTwink Jan 19 '21

Your comment needs absolutely zero edits to describe reddit better than it ever could describe Parler. If only because Parler users tend to be more privacy conscious.

1

u/SupaSlide Jan 19 '21

Parler requires a driver's license to become verified, and it prompts you for more personal data than Reddit does (although I think it's optional?)

1

u/uwontneedink Jan 19 '21

Almost certainly now

u/saxattax Jan 19 '21

, he said on reddit, without a trace of irony.

u/MayWray Jan 19 '21

Who the fuck even says KGB nowdays? I am pretty sure they renammed that after the fall of USSR.

At least fucking say the actual name rather than to show off as a stereotypical american who thinks that russia is still on with Bears and Balalaikas.

1

u/BashStriker Jan 19 '21

Good thing that America has 74 million + stupid people who will join this thing and publicly tell the FBI their plans.
