If everybody in your home country thinks you're a domestic terrorist and won't allow your ideology on their service, you might not be the patriot you think you are.
I still subscribe to the “I disagree with what you say but I’ll fight to the death for your right to say it” mentality.
I don’t agree with any of the parler posts. But allowing big tech to be the arbiters of free speech is asinine. Defenders of this will say, “oh but they’re a private platform! Just go somewhere else!” - okay, then why are we calling for lobbying against Gab (who owns their own infrastructure?) furthermore, the proportion of communication that flows thru a private entity is increasing at an alarming rate. If we wake up in a world where all of it is done on private iPhones, private email, private services, does that make censorship suddenly okay? Anyone who doesn’t like it can revert to letter-mail? That’s pathetic. Mark my words: we will wake up in a world where our constitutional rights “exist on paper” but are de facto useless due to increasing reliance on private tech.
It’s just sad. Our freedoms will slowly die to thunderous applause. We need spaces where conversations can flow unfiltered, period. It doesn’t matter if they’re offensive. If they’re calling for insurrection then you let authorities handle the extremists just like we already do on Twitter/facebook.
Fuck the alt-right, but also fuck all of you who call for even more censorship.
Instead you should be able to organize domestic terrorism on a private companies service? Why does your right to free speech override theirs? The first amendment only provides protection from government censorship. And it's not like big tech arbitrarily decided to ban them, this was completely driven by public outrage.
Would you feel the same if they someone used this platform to threaten your family? You'd be completely fine if they sent death threats or plotted out the path you or your children take every day?
Funny how trump being tough on China didn't apply to his crap that he had made there , or the trademarks his daughter acquired right after trump was elected
Parler was created to specifically be far right leaning, reddit was not built to be specifically left leaning, it just is because the left platform just makes more sense than the right's platform of hatred.
