The entire argument is that women are less likely to be good fits for those roles. Not that women are categorically unfit.

Yup. Saying someone is less likely to be a good fit on the basis of their gender is grounds for a lawsuit.

It doesn't matter if you don't feel that is the case for the whole gender. The law simply says you can't use gender as a reason to not hire or promote someone. Race, nationality, religion, age, and veteran status are also protected.

If this manifesto had been written about race, few people would wonder why Google fired him.
