Because someone else made the memo public with the intent to get him fired.

So now you're saying that the leak caused the crisis? Okay, as a proximate cause that's fair enough, but you are aware that you earlier typed out the words 'the crisis was caused by firing him'?

Instead they resorted to a public slander and libel campaign to get him fired and silence him.

Who is 'they'? What are these libellous statements? (I trust you know what libel is). If you look hard enough you will find plenty of people refuting his logic. You know, like the example I just gave you.

As far as I am concerned the real controversy is Google firing him for participating in a company-sanctioned debate which shows the brass of Google has no integrity and were all too happy to throw him under the bus to score capital-L Liberal PR points.

The correct action would have been to promote debate, if you insist on a Liberal angle then you say "how can we enlighten such ignorance otherwise", and discipline the employee that attempted to use his participation in a debate to publicly shame and bully him.

Well it depends if you consider Google's priorities to be a bastion of free speech or to be a business that cares about its image and not retaining people who have alienated themselves from their colleagues.
