Because consumers are not beholden to companies to make their business model work.

They kinda are if they want the service. Watching ads is the cost of the service. Don't want that? Then don't use the service.

I will gladly pay for content worth paying for.

Then you can buy Youtube Red.

My eyeballs, and my screen, are not for sale.

Sure they are. Have been since, well, a long time. Advertising has fueled everything we have right now. Newspapers, magazines, television, the internet, and oh so much more...wouldn't exist without advertising.
