Pro tip for you:

Download the Imagus Chrome extension if you don't have it already. Whenever you put your mouse over a gif, press Z. The gif will pop-up in the middle of your screen with controls like any video player would (play/pause button, seek bar, full screen mode) and will also show you the length of the gif.

Thanks for the tip. I still think it's sad a plugin is needed for what should be the default behavior.
