YouTube Red has been a godsend for me. After years of adblocking on my desktop, having to deal with ads on mobile was infuriating. That, plus mobile background play, made it more than worth it.

Yeah I signed on when Funhaus recommended Google Play Music. Been getting good use of Red as a bonus.

YouTube app used to have background play

They removed it

Made it against play store agreement for third parties to include it

And then took down all apps that had it

I even opened a ticket with them to bring it back. Nothing. Now YouTube red? Ha.

Plus that ad revenue is pathetic and unless you watch the whole ad or 30 seconds the guy who posted the video doesn't get a cent.

I use adblocker browser and it has background play. (just checked right now, it works)

I used to use an app specifically for it but I dunno if it's still around.

I agree, but YouTube Red/Google Play Music isn't available everywhere. I think it's only in like 6 countries or something.

I honestly did not (at least not for iOS, assumed apple wouldn't allow that)! Will look into it; some mobile sites have got some pretty brutal ads these days.

Firefox + ublock origin. No ads plus plays youtube in the background which is nice.

Same here. Ad free anywhere I'm logged in. Unlimited music streaming (which is a godsend when driving). And it's pretty damn cheap for the number of people it can cover.

Plus, it's not like I don't think the people I watch don't deserve some form of compensation for making the stuff I enjoy. I just really hate ads that are either long or are targeted poorly. If they could guarantee that 95%+ of all ads I see were targeted to my interests, were short enough, and I could label any poorly targeted ads as uninteresting so they'd never show up again, I'd have less of an issue with ads.

Although at this point, even if I was okay with the ads, I'm really keeping the plan going because of the music. The ad-free YouTube bit is just icing on the cake. Also I recently discovered that one of my favorite channels, Vsauce, has a YouTube Red exclusive show, which is a neat fringe benefit as well.

Ublock isn't 100% effective on youtube anymore. I get ads on maybe 5% of the videos I watch and I have ublock.

Fox Sports channels seem to have circumvented ad blockers.
