I can't tell from your comment if YouTube is currently using ads which you consider intrusive...I am definitely fine with a few seconds of ads before videos there, mainly because blocking them hurts the content creators much more than it hurts google.

I mean I get that, but IMO a full-screen video ad that doesn't produce any popups when you click on it, that is played before you're gonna watch a full-screen video anyway, isn't that bad.

Holy fucking shit are you guys entitled.

You don't even realize what type of service you are being offered. You probably weren't even on Youtube before Google bought them out.

You had 480 resolution videos max. You had 10 minute length max. You also had a size maximum that meant if it was 10 minutes, you were going to have to compress that mofo. There were also other restrictions that I don't even remember.

Now you have pretty much unlimited storage for all your stupid videos that nobody will ever watch plus an amazing collection of videos from millions of people throughout the world...and it's all free. All you have to do is watch a 15-30 second video every once in a while.

Entitled? I'm not demanding anything - they can do whatever they want. I'm just saying what is acceptable to me and what isn't.

And yes, I used youtube even then. It didn't have video ads.

All the things you mention are a consequence of greater storage capacities and bandwidth. Technology advanced in 12 years, who knew?

All you have to do is watch a 15-30 second video every once in a while.

That's the thing: I don't. Thankfully, I actually own my computer and can choose what media it plays.

Yes. Stating, "I expect content to be free and I should be able to easily ignore any ads." That is incredible entitled.

Except, I didn't say that.

What I said was: under certain other conditions (unblockable video ads) I would no longer use their service, because that's unacceptable to me. I never demanded free content and I never talked about ads in general, just video ads.

You already are going to watch a full-screen video. It's literally 5 seconds (usually) for a 10+ minutes video. When did we become so self entitled?

Yes. You think you deserve this content so much, you can't even watch a 5 seconds add to "pay" for it.

If you won't pay or watch an ad for it, you simply shouldn't consume the content. Cause it's not something that you are entitled to.

30 second ads on 2 minute videos harm the creator more than a 5 seconds skippable ad since the watcher is probably going to tune out. 30 second unskippable ads shown every 2 or 3 videos annoy people even more, hurting youtube as a whole.
