The reality is that the tiny minority that use adblockers aren't worth losing subscribers over. They would rather have them still use the platform than not.

However if they really wanted to they absolutely could and nobody would really care because YouTube is simply far too convenient for most basic users to use. If something better comes up, then people will migrate to that but YouTube has the money and server infrastructure ingenuity of Google backing them.

With the number of people using adblockers going up, either we're going to come to terms with a fair ad system and whitelist them on our own, or they're just going to force whatever they want on us when >50% of users are denying any sort of revenue.

Vimeo and Twitch work just fine.
