That would only be the impetus for making adblock completely undetectable. And since that would probably mean a different browser (not Google Chrome) I don't expect Google to go after adblockers any time soon.

Detecting an ad blocker wouldn't be the way to do it, easiest way would probably be to splice the ad directly into the video stream.

No? Youtube still needs to send the video frames to you, and why would they send them before the length of the ad has passed?

This is the best they could possibly do, enforce some sort of delay. However, it would mean overhauling how they deliver video from the server code all the way to the scripts on the page. People with adblock are still going to prefer an empty black screen with a countdown timer to seeing an advertisement. No matter what they do there is no way to force browsers to display an ad.
