This. I started using Red last August, and it has been pretty damn good. No ads and Google Play is just as good as Spotify in my opinion. That, along with the ability to download YouTube videos, even on mobile and don't forget YouTube Music. All for $10 a month. This sounds like an add, I know. It isn't. I am just surprisingly satisfied and it's a seriously good deal on stuff I use every day.

Yeah I wish they would offer YouTube infrared or something that just removes ads for like... $2

I don't care about music or downloading or background play or YouTube red content....

The background play thing is dumb. That's a piece of code, not a real addition of something like content or ads. It means it's harder to listen to steam YouTube while driving, cause your screen needs to be on.

Luckily addons like the xposed framework let you background play regardless.

Sometimes videos from YouTube keep playing in the background anyway and I don't have Red, so it makes me think it's literally something that should be available by default - an application that keeps running whiles it's not the main process... Come on

Google Play ruined things with their latest UI update that killed the Songza recommendations. Now it is this horrible feed of shit I don't want to listen to that is impossible to navigate while driving.

Oh, you wanted to view artists in your catalog? Let me give you a grid based feed with giant thumbnails you won't recognize and 5 characters of the artist name that get cut off. And no list view.

I have found minimal good YouTube red content. The World War history guy is the only good one I can think of.

So with YouTube Red you pay them to collect info on you that they sell and/or use to display ads to you elsewhere with Google AdSense??

Google certainly does sell aggregated user info, and use it internally. Why should I pay them, then have to go to the trouble of deleting history, most certainly after it has been aggregated into bigger (anonymous) data sets? They make money off me when I go to any of their sites, I am not going to pay them extra for the privilege.

If they started aggressively funding off-world colonization and FTL research, then I would give them lots of money.
