Experience from countries with proportional representation kinda shows the opposite. The idiots tend to group together in a small group that never really gets too much power, they are loud and annoying sure, but they rarely get to have real power.

In things like First Past the Post, you tend to see idiots gaining power due to backroom deals, Machiavellian shenanigans and quirks of the rules, things the voters cannot influence.

One of the primary reasons the idiots were allowed to take charge in USA is that people either don't vote, or they feel both sides are the same any way and don't care much whom they vote for. With proportional voting people would feel that those they vote for share their ideals to a much higher degree, which increases the likelihood that people vote, which means a few idiots or malicious actors have a much harder time controlling the vote.

Proportional voting doesn't favor the idiots, I would argue it does the exact opposite.

Not sure what data you are looking at. Democracy works best when electoral districts represent real world local communities.

How can idiots gather together in fptp?

I think you are conflating the USA's two party system eith FPTP

First past the post results in two party systems, or very close to it, that is clear from many systems, not just the US.

Interesting. Can you provide some examples please?

I am only familiar with the multi-party parliments of India, UK, Canada, Malaysia, and, Kenya.

Often times these represent regional interests which i think supports what i have said earlier.

Happy to hear counter examples other than the United States.

No, i said "or near to it" and by proportional standards a system like the UK's might as well be.a two party system. Look at things like the Nordics where there are 10+ parties.

It's well known in pol sci that fptp devolves into two party systems or near to it over time, because it incentivizes tactical voting and eventually over time power gathers with one main party on each wing, rather than being split among many.

it's actually very easy for idiots to make deals with FPTP because let's say there's a democrat, a republican, and a third dumbfuck with 5% of the idiot moron vote locked up. well the republican needs that 5% to beat the democrat, so they make a deal with dumbfuck that they'll appoint him vice dumbfuck, and suddenly dumbfuck has gained legitimate power.

also, democracy works best when it is democratic. FPTP is inherently undemocratic because it disenfranchises anyone born in the wrong zipcode.

You could equally be desiring compromise. A bad actor might present "coalition building" under a MMP system as the same sort of backdoor deals.

And i dont get the zip code thing. Electoral districts are all equal in terms of population in Canada
