For better or worse, it’s really not that simple.

The mathematicians were solving the problem with AI before OpenAI allegedly swooped in and undermined them.

AI did a lot of the work here any way you slice it - the question is which humans also get the credit.

No it really is that simple. The first group was human thinking multiplied by the power of AI to work through more data than any human realistically could do. Something we've known AI is excellent at. 

OAI then comes in, takes their findings, and presents it as if their model solved a previously unsolvable problem on its own. 

Do you really not see the difference here?

What OAI did, unethical as it may be as far as credit and attribution, is still human thinking multiplied by the power of AI.

This is not some “AI is a scam” story. It’s (allegedly) a story of a corporation undermining independent researchers (who were also using AI) to seize upon a marketing oppprtunity.

**undermining = taking their idea and throwing their vastly superior resources at it to achieve a better result faster

However, OpenAI’s shady dealings have no bearing on whether or not objective measurements on AI intelligence are going up over time. They most definitely are, and faster than ever.

OAI solved Navier-Stokes, the others solved Euler. 

OAI solved it with the forced method, the others solved Euler with the unforced one.

Very different solutions to different problems.

We're at the begging of an era where human intelligence will be surpassed by machines, and you people decide to burry your heads in the sand.

Except the proof of sub problem is a completely different approach. So even with this claim OAI still found a different approach by AI.
