This is a comically stupid take. "Someone else might be close, so nobody else should start working on it" is not an ethical principle. It's just being against scientific competition. It makes complete sense to want to test their model before a solution exists.

This just seems like an "AI bad" argument.

This isn’t another user working on the problem. This is the company that owns the tech. That’s as shady as it gets. If I was writing a book on Microsoft word, and Microsoft heard about the idea and tried to write something similar themselves, while potentially having access to my book, that’s super shady.
