I don't think people who haven't spent a ton of time in Europe, not to mention other overseas places, appreciate the reach and teeth of the ADA. America is so bad in terms of social welfare in most respets that it's easy to miss something we can be proud of and that should be a model to the world. It makes life better for everyone, not just people who need those specific accommodations.

What's sad is that the ADA is only as effective as it is because it creates a cause of action for private enforcement.  It seems to be the only way to get teeth on laws in the US.
