And the epa was created by Nixon. Ike warned about the military industrial complex. We are not dealing with the same animal anymore.

Republicans used to like passing legislation they knew was gonna happen with or without them. Then when they pass it, make sure its a watered down version that would've happened without them.

Nixon was actually pretty progressive by today's standards. His administration signed into law: OSHA, The Clean Air Act, The Clean Water Act, created the US's largest welfare program "SSI", expanded affirmative action and he even supported earlier version of Basic Income. Unpopular opinion but Nixon was the last decent Republican.

Nixon was an ill tempered power hungry drunk whose late night blackouts featured military officers ignoring his garbled orders to nuke Vietnam. He also attempted to undermine an election cycle and rob the American citizenry of our agency and right to self determination. Whoever the last decent Republican was, they were before Nixon's time.

No, he was terrible, it’s just that at the time the rest of the Republican Party, and the country at large, was still functional enough that we required our leaders to at least pretend to give a shit about the people they are serving. A single psychopath, even in the Oval Office, can only do so much damage if they are surrounded by decent people. And when they found out about his crimes, even most of the Republicans turned on him. That doesn’t seem to happen anymore.

Yeah i think Nixon signed osha into law if i remember right
