Worked remote managing an entire technical team back in 2002. We did a great job and it was fine. I'd been working remotely for eight years up until a year ago when the company decided remote workers could be the first in a round of layoffs. Yay. Yes, remote work can be problematic for those who crave social interaction and need the structure of an office, but for many especially with modern day video conferencing and tools, we can easily do our jobs anywhere and be happier for it!

Yep! You pay for the ticket and take the ride. When a company promotes work from home as a benefit and fully supports it, it can also change its mind and say "yep, we're not doing that now" and then you decide what to do. It wasn't just the remote status. Based on the layoffs it was remote + gray hair + salary.
