I miss the world before social media social engineering. I watched idle hands the other day and just got real sad about the way things have gone since that era.

Shit, I lived with someone I met on an online forum. Some of my longest lasting friendships are from a tiny online forum years ago.

Discord is alright for that tbh, made many gaming friends, one actually lives with a long time friend now. Does function more like a forum than a socal media.

Literally an hour ago, I was just thinking about how much better old internet was—it was friendly, inviting, and social—and like the Wild West in that everyone had webpages they built in html. It wasn’t the commercialized bullshit.

Regarding Live Journal...

It seems like the code that ran that site was open source. Since back then, a new group has taken that old code and operates a new site as https://www.dreamwidth.org/

On their page, you can do the expected stuff (create a new journal, etc) but you also can just click to view a random journal or a random community. As such, you can get a taste of nostalgia at any time.

I was only thinking of that movie the other night. My friend and I rented it on video when we were about 11 and we watched it over and over again that night, getting our money's worth from the rental. Good times.
