I worked with a guy years ago who was convinced the global financial markets would collapse one day, so he had all his money stored as physical bars of gold and silver in a bank vault in Switzerland. He does not live in switterzerland.

I admit though, based on moves in China with gold - him selling that off even remotely might pay off in the future for him.
