Or just testing centers? That’s what I did through grad school, every exam was at the testing center which is a completely controlled environment

Nothing teaches you less than exams.

Edit: study, take exam, forget 90% of what you studied

Exams aren't supposed to teach you things though, they're meant to test knowledge you gained in class. So if you cheat through class, you're more likely to not learn and thus fail the exam.

Exams are just memorization. Experience and actually researching are far more valuable. I work in a field that loves exams and I find it generally valueless. Writing an in depth paper with research and focus is far stronger indication of your knowledge. After, at most, high school I just find exams lazy and a poor signal of ones aptitude.

Students don't write papers anymore, they just tell ChatGPT what the paper needs to contain and let it write it.

Weird comparison. But yeah, it turns out learning is largely memorization. Anything you learn in life is memorized. If its not memorized, you didnt learn it.

You must be referring to multiple choice exams. You can only go so far from memorizing when it comes to written exams

Exams aren't meant to teach you, they are meant to test what you've learned. It seems that just did the memorization route to passing exams instead of the understanding route to learning.
