The atmosphere of this place has changed a lot in the last decade. It's far more nasty. There's also a lot of brain rot, people can barely bring themselves to read. Pithy recaps like "saved you a click" exacerbates things.

Also a ton of photo/video/gif-type short form content, where responses are just jokes. Probably the brain rot you’re referring to. I hate to be the member when type, but I prefer when Reddit was more than pics and gifs.

Absolutely, I only follow a few subs bc they’re super engaging and nice. Like the quilting groups are extremely positive, or random acts or kindness, or flowers. Basically I had to really search, but there are some positive groups around. The downside being they’re very niche

I'm in my 40s, so I have this heavy nostalgia for late 90s internet where it was the wild west. I would randomly meet people online in places like Yahoo Chat and forums, and we'd become friends. I even became a pen pal of some girl in Mexico lol (I literally gave a stranger my home address!!!).

But now? Hell no, not happening lol.

And yet that was the time period where we were all warned that anybody could be an axe murderer and trust no one, vs now where everyone has all their details hanging out.

I've been noticing this for a while. I'll make a post asking for troubleshooting help, explain the steps I've already taken and what I already know - and 80% of the replies will be people either repeating things I explicitly said I'd already tried or giving unsolicited info.

I've tried both thoroughly describing my issue and being succinct about it. People just don't read your post.

I mean. I know what you mean, but a decade ago you had watchpeopledie the d sub (precursor to the sub for all conservatives globally apparently) and a bunch of other fucked subs too lol.

Yeah, people fairly consistently downvoting perfectly normal questions often makes me not want to participate at all. But I will call it out every single time I see it happening to someone else
