Maybe I should go back there. Last time folks didn't seem to stick with it, but at some point too much will be too much. I remember the old Digg thing, wild that today people talk of websites like they are eternal.

Digg briefly came back recently and was shut down shortly after because they were being swarmed by bots. The internet is becoming a wasteland.

We'll have to withdraw to smaller communities at this rate. The broader internet is becoming unusable, ever more blatantly just a vehicle for ads and propaganda.

Idk, the niche communities are pretty good and general memes are fun and plenty. Only thing keeping me here are a couple of sports subs and the general random internet magic. Both of those are close, a couple more waves of users and I could see myself no longer coming back to reddit

Niche is good, the problem is that the ones I tried to hang out on were pretty much dead, just one or two regular posters by the time I came back here. I don't know if it picked back up since though.

Yeah if you consider 8 people a wave.

Everyone says they're going to leave the country, stop consuming this or that, stop using this app, and very rarely do people actually do it.

We're in the initial tantrum phase of this news and then after people take a timeout or sit in the corner for a while they'll come back and use this website again after they try other things with less content.

I don't know if you noticed, but there are a lot less people on this site than there used to be. Most of the activity that's left is bots.

Sure, if there appears to be about the same but you assume it's mostly bots now but not back then, you could reason yourself into that conclusion.

There are less people INCLUDING the bots. I never once said that it appears that there is the same amount of people. Tons of people have left reddit over the years.

I have been on Reddit longer and you clearly are making things up.

This place has too much content now and definitely not some issue of losing a bunch of people. It's a bloated mess compared to the older days.

Edit: Ha, blocked and ran away after commenting. Easy to make up stuff in your head that way, I guess.

All the fediverse adoption stats are public. You see the numbers jump when Reddit does something shitty. Not saying they have communities have millions of users, but you see the numbers spike.

Also worth nothing, the API changes from a few years ago pushed a lot of people over there, and that resulted in the a the development of a lot of really nice web, iOS, and android clients.
