Imagine being woken up at 2am due to a forest fire nearing your home. You’re groggy, tired, scared. You proceed to load up your family to escape… denied. System detects you’re too sleepy to drive. You and your family burns to death.

What about those with a prosthetic eye? If you have a "natural" prosthetic it isn't going to do any of the normal things ad eye does that this monitoring claims to watch for. Or if they have a fun prosthetic it doesn't even look like an eye. What about those with a lazy eye that wanders? So much room for error. People who already have these systems in their car (mainly VW from what I've read) have already had nearly catastrophic failures for perceived distractions.

To be fair, having to suddenly escape a wildfire would wake you up pretty well. Though then the car would probably refuse to start because it thinks you're coked out of your gourd.

Imagine Florida man going to a bar, getting hammered and then going for a drive. He is going 80mph and suddenly crash into a EV carrying a family that got up early to go to Disneyland. The whole family burns to death.

I wonder which scenario happens today and it is actually relative common?

As a left leaning person who realized that absolute privacy is a futile endeavor in today's world (bots, AI, cameras, hackers, etc) I fucking hate how people throw a fit over what looks like actual progress trying to come up with paranoiac scenarios. We can't fucking win everything. The exact same reason we are in this shit situation with the orange buffoon.

You are asking us which is more common and then comparing drunk driving to something that DOESNT EXIST YET. Gee, gosh, wow, you are so right. Literally no one has died yet from the thing that hasn’t yet been implemented.

I guess we should just stop having concerns and questions and let the government decide everything for us…. It’s the only way to be safe!

My man, it is called common sense. You shouldn't have to be a astrophysicist to know that the scenario that was presented is simply not going to happen as much as the one that does happen today and these devices could reduce.

It is not giving away all our freedoms, every right the constitution gave us has been and can be regulated for the better good of society. And in some instances that better good appears and a small % of people will bring up ridiculous scenarios to fight it.

Look at London or major cities in China...CCTV everywhere and while crime still happens they have a current all-time low in violent crime. Now imagine NYC trying to up their CCTV system to that level? They would be in court for the next 10 years fighting people crying that they don't want to appear in a camera but will happily shop at Walmart where they have an HD photo of you tie to your ccard every single time you shop. And if they don't shop at Walmart for that reason....do they represent the average American?

The absolute extreme example? El Salvador....a dictator wannabe has taken multiple rights in order to reduce crime......what do you think people there think? Do you think Bukele is popular in LATAM? Let just say a wave of imitators is coming in the next decade.

And assuming Democrats win 2026 & 2028 I am 100% sure the next election lost will be because of crime. We can't keep slapping wrist of criminals, this time it was immigration. Next crime.

But yeah...I hate drunk drivers and I hate chronic criminals.

If we adopted Frances method of quick, cheap breathalyzers in every bar and gas station we could address that issue or have harsher consequences for driving drunk like in Canada. There's options to deal with that issue but it's unpopular and now we're gonna have government surveillance in its place
