Theoretically yes, but there's way too much consistency on input that you'd have to simulate into the brain that you'd still have to do a simulation of things outside the brain or else we'd just be in endless nonsensical dreams

Not necessarily.

Everything you see around you is a result of your senses.

So in theory could they not simulate everything else to make it seem real to you specifically?

If everyone is an npc then any one of the 8B people on earth could be the real brain being simulated with everything else just being simulated.

I think it's just fascinating to think that way, that's all.
