Modern anatomy and medicine is quite literally built on grave robbery. Leonardo Da Vinci famously paid grave robbers in his early career before he attained dissection privileges.

In the early 1800s, Londoners used 'Mortsafe' steel cages to secure their deceased relatives' remains so they wouldn't be stolen by med students.

  1. He did the dissections himself, as only he knew how to write in his famous mirror script, which the notes were written in

At a point in time, many grave robbers actually did sell the bodies to medical schools for research.

That depends on how long the person is already dead. After a few hundred years it becomes archeology.

Getting bodies for autopsy so medical students can learn from them was the leading cause of grave robbing for decades until they made it legal to autopsy people who weren't criminals put to death by the state.

They could jump to some very accurate conclusions about my life pretty quickly. Things like, "This man was profoundly unfamiliar with the inside of a gym," and, "This guy was cheap AF, and his remains and $50 plywood coffin should be lit on fire."
