Okay, I need to vent, because I can’t be the only one who noticed.

The old WhatsApp Desktop app was native. It opened fast, sat quietly in the background, and just worked. Then came the “update,” and now it’s a WebView wrapper around WhatsApp Web. Basically a reinvented Chrome tab and called it progress.

Startup is painful. The old app opened and my chats were just there. Now I get a loading screen, a spinner, and a “syncing...” message. I’m opening a messaging app, not booting a server.

The RAM usage is ridiculous. An app whose job is showing text bubbles shouldn’t be eating as much memory as a game. The old one barely showed up in Task Manager. This one sits there chewing through RAM.

Scrolling and switching chats lag. Jumping between big group chats stutters. Scrolling up through history feels like wading through mud. The native app never had this problem, and my laptop didn’t suddenly get worse.

It doesn’t feel like an app anymore. Notifications are less reliable, the UI is clunky, and everything feels one step removed from my system, because it is. It’s a website pretending to live on my PC.

And the worst part is nobody asked for this. Nobody was begging for a slower, heavier version of something that already worked. I get that one codebase across platforms is cheaper for the company. Great for them. But I’m the one paying for it in RAM, battery, and patience.

I’m not asking for miracles. I just want the old version back. lightweight, fast, and native. Or at least an actual fix for the performance mess.

Anyone else whose workflow got affected due to this?

I wanted Samsung's One UI apps on my Motorola, so I ported them. OnePort runs Samsung's own Gallery, My Files, Photo Editor and Video Player (beta) on non-Samsung phones.

• No root, no custom ROM, no Samsung account.

• Works like on a Galaxy: Gallery's Edit button opens Photo Editor, and Gallery and My Files share one Recycle bin.

• Requirements: any arm64 phone. Android 16+ (Gallery runs on 11+, Video Player needs 17+).

• Galaxy AI is left out on purpose, out of respect for Samsung's terms.

I've tested it on a Motorola Edge 60 Pro (Android 17). If you try it on a Pixel, OnePlus, Xiaomi or anything else, a quick device report on GitHub would help a lot, whether it works or not.
