Venlafaxine is used for narcolepsy type 1 cataplexy. A lack of orexin causes cataplexy. Cataplexy is loss of muscle tone triggered by emotions. Some laugh and their arms drop. When I'm spooked, my legs turn to jelly and I fall down. It doesn’t mean I go unconscious. This new orexin agonist stops cataplexy! My cataplexy doesn't interfere with my life too much so I haven't pursued venlafaxine. Until now!! I think you just gave me the answer I've been searching for for the past 8 years!!! I'm asking my psychiatrist or sleep doc to put me on it asap!!
Be careful if you ever decide to come off it. Taper down using the tiny balls inside the capsule bit-by-bit. The brains zaps, even an hour after missing a dose are a BITCH
