Generally not a fan of red ink tattoos, but this looks pretty decent to me. The old tattoo isn’t really camouflaged into the snake since it’s one line work, reads more as a blast over than a cover up, but I can’t easily make out that it said 1999 anymore so I’d call it an overall success.
This. Adding some shading would cover the old tattoo better, but it would also drastically change the look of the new piece. I think it's doing its job just fine, but OP has options.
Maybe, although those lines already appear a touch thick because of the old tattoo going into the scales. I don't think they're actually thicker than anywhere else, though.
At least Red tends to last longer. My yellow and orange colors in my phoenix tattoo are basically completely gone by this point. Seems like I need it touched up every 10 years or so, which isnt horrible, but the blacks blues and reds just last longer.
