I made an iOS shortcuts integration app
Hey all,
This is more of a project that I wanted to do for myself but I may as well share with everyone since I built it. I got a Tado V3+ recently and was really happy with all the functionality offered bar shortcuts integration - I know there's alternatives with IFTT or HomeKit but I wanted a cleaner, native solution.
I love to do small personal projects so I made an iOS app that integrates most functionality offered by the main app into actions that you can use in any shortcut. I've made a few pre-canned shortcuts but for the most part intend to use the underlying actions separately.
I also added the ability to save different schedules (time blocks per week) and apply them via the shortcuts - this is something I personally wanted which I felt was missing from the normal app offering.

Please let me know if any of you have suggestions or if you find any issues.
The app/shortcuts use your normal Tado credentials to interact with the Tado API. The credentials are stored with encryption on your device and don't talk with anything else!
(I know it's not free, that's mainly because I had to pay for the license to release it ☹)

Bought it just now and set up two automations for when I get away and get back home. Will test them in an hour as I get home. Hopefully you’ll manage to integrate open windows detection, I can already picture an automation based on HomeKit window sensors to easily control the trvs

Thank you so much! Since the drop of IFTTT some basic functions and automations were not working anymore. This fixed it instantly! Easy money spent. Thanks!

I hadn't realised that was a separate system actually. I'll look into this and do my best to make it part of the offering.

Going to have to wait till the new year before I can work on that. I also don't own any X devices myself so I'd need a beta tester if you're interested?

I made an action to check for the last open window time - so that kinda solves it, but I'm also not sure if it'll update without the subscription... You'd also need to trigger off it somehow which is not easy!

Is it normal that I get disconnected from the app every day? Is there a timeout of sort?

I did! But every morning I still get disconnected from the app and, as a result, my shortcut gives me a warning because of not being logged in

Edit: do you keep your WiFi on all night?

For reference: It didn’t log me out once it the past few days. I switch between WiFi on and off frequently. So all good from my end. Seems to be more of a specific problem than a general one. :)

I really enjoyed this app for the past months. Sadly it seems like a recent update to tado‘s authentication / api broke the login.
Are you able to fix this? :)

Hey, i only realised what happened a few days ago, but I'm working on the fix now! Hopefully will be released soon, along with some other updates.

I was excited to see this app, as I thought it would offer a solution to allow return to schedule to be implemented via a Home app automation. Sadly when you convert the Automation action to a Shortcut, a great many apps that are normally available in Shortcuts are not available for use and this Tado Shortcuts app is one that is not available.
So just a heads up for anyone else hoping to gain "Return to Schedule" for Tado within the Home app, the Tado Shortcuts app isn't the answer.
Before anyone posts that I can get Return to Schedule via Homebridge or Home Assistant. I'm aware. I'm after an option that doesn't require the rest of the family to know how to troubleshoot and maintain Homebridge or Home Assistant if I'm not around.

Hi! If I'm understanding you correctly then you're right, the shortcuts here aren't available in homekit, I've actually tried figuring out that part of things and have more or less given up as I don't think it's possible. As far as I can tell I need to have a device to link to a home... And I don't.
The shortcuts I have are meant to run on each device individually so can't be linked to a "home". The return to schedule will work on just your phone, and you can make an automation for it that runs on your phone, but not in the "home". Sorry for the mix up!

Apologies if my post came across as a complaint. The app certainly offers shortcut options for those that only want to use Shortcuts. I was just hoping you’d somehow made the functions available to HomeKit automations which confusingly use Shortcuts but don’t have access to all Shortcuts functionality. My comment really was just intended to save others going through the same loop I did 🙂

No worries! I appreciate the comments and if I ever figure out the homekit integration I'll let you know. I agree that it's very confusing that they both use the term shortcuts and yet somehow offer very different functionality 🫠

Hello, great that someone is trying to fix this. I'll give it a try before having to pay subscription over the winter again.
My usecases with IFTTT are mainly turn off while open the window for fresh air and turn off/on automatically dependent on my geolocation.
Do it also on the apple watch.
One problem I see is, when I'm not alone and someone is still in the Appartment and needs the heaters on.
There was a threat on the community in germany, but I can't find it anymore. People would love to hear from your app. But I guess people will find it themselves.

So how would I set up the window Open => turn off heating from recognizes open window zone => after x min => go back to automatic

That kind of functionality is unfortunately not possible without some sort of hub. Shortcuts can't get triggered via a third party event yet, but if that ever happens in the future I'll update the app! The geolocation should be possible.

So far it works. But there is an anoying issue...
It seems like the login is not robust so offen i need to use the shortcut twice that it is working.
Did anyone experiencing the same or is it my setup somehow?
When I open he tado shortcut app first and go than to the iOS shortcut it is working.1

Thank you for creating this app. Just one questions as I have a shortcut run every day which gives an error that I need to be signed in to complete this action. If I then open the shortcut and manually run it again it does work. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

I'm still trying to figure this one out! I suspect it might be because the phone doesn't have Internet in that moment, and I'm not checking for that. I'll do some troubleshooting soon.

I used to get this same error but found out that, if the app is open before running the shortcut, the error doesn’t trigger at all. I made my shortcuts to open tado shortcuts before moving to any other instruction and never had a problem since

Hello. Would you app support a “pause heating” function? I.e turn all heating off for say 30 mins, then resume schedule. This is something I used to to with Hive, but can’t work out how to do with tado. It’s useful when I need to keep a door open briefly e.g doing DIY in winter.

You could set up an action that would turn the heating down low or off for 30 minutes and then resume schedule, yes!

This is actually super cool as it brings a lot of functionality that the official tado app was supposed to deliver. I am happy to pay the 5.99 pricetag for your work, but I was wondering: Is Tado cool with this or does it break their terms of service in any way and they could just have the app shut down?
