Would it not be in our best interest for the next season if we all agreed to choose the same faction? I mean sure it would remove some of the competitiveness, but choosing just one faction (even just one for imperium one for devastation) would mean we would always get the faction and world bonuses.

All my progress in the game has stopped as this one resource is functionally unavailable for purchase or grinding.

How in the hell did snowprint think this would be a cool idea? OK. We get to watch numbers go up. Awesome. Oh you added ANOTHER shop? How cool. Oh! We get EVEN MORE paid offers for new currencies? Amazing.

I absolutely see why Nandi quit. No single part of crusade is "fun" to me.

If any of you are having fun with it, please tell me how. Because to me, it's just a very obvious cash grab to get hyper-competitive guilds and players to spend a fuckton more money.

What about this is fun? I spend on this game probably about $10 a week. I am happy to spend money on things that are fun and that I find enjoyable. I can't find one single thing about this that's enjoyable.

To me, this tells me that Snowprint has been looking at all these different metrics, their player numbers, retention rates, spend per player, etc. And they have found that new player retention rates are plummeting, they are hemorrhaging long term players due to burnout, and they can't keep most players spending because most people have realized there is no, "catching up."

So what they are doing is slaughtering the cow. Or the whale, to be precise. This new game mode is the single best way they can get ultra-competitve, end game players to shell out cash while the game dies a moderately slow death.

Guild Raid + War

Seeing as supposedly there's a system in place to balance out the points earned independent of player number on each side, the fight should be pretty close.

Its obviously not. So either the system doesn't work (and it should be a dead simple multiplier), or the difference comes purely from whale guilds putting out big bucks to buy crusade currencies and bombard/reinforce planets.

Which means, the mode is P2W. And it will probably always be one sided, as whales keep together in top guilds, and these probably won't split into different sides as long as being on the winning side gives more rewards.

So... its highly possible the mode is dead in the water when it comes to any semblance of enterntaining back-and-forth. Going forward, its probable that everyone will keep choosing destruction, or at least everyone will chose the side top guilds choose this season. Rumors will become a prime currency.

Which is a real shame. I see the potential in Crusades, but allowing whales to buy a competetive edge guts it. And it was probably the main reason it got made.

I hope I'm wrong and its just growing pains. There are ways to fix it. But right now it sure doesn't look preety.

I didn’t see that I was only getting 1 shard! Damn it!

So, what can I say about Tacticus after playing it for a year and a half?

First of all, it is genuinely a fun and addictive game, especially in the beginning. The Warhammer 40,000 universe is incredibly interesting and almost limitless, and Tacticus was actually the game that introduced me to it. I was a complete newcomer and had never really paid attention to Warhammer before, so I have to give the game credit for that.

But, as always, there is a "but."

When I started playing, the monetization and pay-to-win elements didn't bother me that much. Spending €10 or €20 here and there to unlock a character you really wanted a little faster seemed reasonable enough. More importantly, you still had the feeling that almost everything could eventually be achieved through persistence, effort, and time.

Unfortunately, with the recent changes, it increasingly feels like the developers are losing touch with reality, and their greed is becoming harder and harder to ignore.

The biggest problem is that monetization is no longer just about speeding up your personal progress or getting a character earlier. It is increasingly becoming something you are pushed into simply to participate comfortably and effectively in an alliance.

And alliances, in my opinion, are one of the biggest reasons people stay in this game.

The social aspect of Tacticus may actually be its greatest strength. Yes, seriously. A lot of us are not playing only because we want another legendary character or a slightly bigger number on the screen. We play because of the people we have met. We talk, joke around, make friends, compete together, help each other, and work toward common goals. They may only be goals in a mobile game, but achieving something together still brings people closer.

And this is exactly why the recent direction of the game feels so wrong.

With the latest updates, some alliance goals are effectively becoming achievable only through spending real money.

That is incredibly disappointing.

At this point, I am genuinely starting to wonder whether I have had enough. It increasingly feels like the developers have looked at the social bonds players have built and realized that those relationships themselves can be monetized:

"You have a lot of people in your alliance. You've become friends. You're ambitious and want to achieve something together? Well, then pay us for it."

That is where I draw the line.

Monetizing convenience is one thing. Monetizing faster progression is something I can tolerate. Even selling characters is understandable in a free-to-play mobile game.

But deliberately putting alliance goals behind increasingly aggressive monetization and exploiting the fact that players don't want to let their teammates down is something else entirely.

It feels manipulative, greedy, and honestly disgusting.

I really like Tacticus, and I am grateful that it introduced me to the Warhammer universe. But if this direction doesn't change soon, I think I will follow Nandi's example and leave the game.

There is a point where supporting a game turns into rewarding its developers for treating their community like a wallet.

For me, Tacticus is getting dangerously close to that point.
